Chapter 43: Southern Border War

“I was resting. The border general moved me here when he discovered that Leonardo’s spy was lurking in the camp. I am unharmed and needed the rest,” I tried to reassure him.

“Salvatore Rhyss, you forget we are mated. The more intimate we are, the more our bond grows, and we can read each other. You dare lie to me?” Lycus scolded.

I pulled him into an embrace and whispered, “My Love, you know protecting you is my priority. Worrying you less was all I had in mind. But as you can see, I am okay. I feared that you would find me in a weak state. I have an ego, Lycus. Forgive me.”

Lycus nodded and we stood up from the bedding. The chill from the cave made him shudder and he huffed in frustration.

“I have instructed the evacuation of the families on the Southern border. We need to prepare and mitigate the war casualties to a minimum. I would rather spare the children, elderly, and women from the war,” Lycus stated
