I will bring your stuff over tonight...

''We need to find a way out of this place first. Do you have any escape route?'' Kai asked.

''How did you get up here?''

''Your voice was a little loud when you were singing. I just followed your voice and came here. Luckily, you stopped singing before Detective Gid arrived.''

''I have a place where we can use to get out of here. Let's go…'' Avery said and led the way. She picked the sculptured parrot on the table and the shelves divided into two. Fiona showed her this place last night. It led to the underground alley which was close to the subway.

''Let's go.'' Avery said as she entered inside. Kai looked around and followed her. After they entered, the shelf closed by itself. It was designed so that once someone entered no one could open from the outside unless the person opens the door from the inside.

''Where is this place?'' Kai asked.

''This is Fiona's place. She showed me this place in case of danger. It leads to the subway.'' Avery said as they walked down the stairs.

Meanwhile outside the gym…

Detective Gid waited until the locksmith opened the door before he shouted at his men to go inside.

''Make sure you look everywhere.'' He said as he ran inside the gym. He looked around and saw the door at the first floor and ran towards it.

''Over here, there is a door…'' He shouted and the others followed suit.

Detective Gid saw the door opened and frowned. He looked inside the bathroom and didn't find Avery.

''She is not here. Go out and look around. She can't be gone too far.'' Detective Gid said and turned to leave. His eyes darted to the parrot and he furrowed his brows and walked closer. He touched it but it didn't open. He tried hitting the shelves but they were immovable.

Detective Gid looked at the shelves and left the room.

When they walked out of the alley and stopped at the corner of a store, Kai pulled Avery back into the corner and said to her. ''You should take the bonnet off your head first.''

''Huh?'' Avery touched her head and took the bonnet off immediately and chuckled awkwardly. ''I forgot I had it. Thank you!''

''I will make a call first.'' Kai said and took out his phone. Avery looked at him as he spoke on the phone. She heard voices from a distance and turned and saw Detective Gid and his men walking towards them.

Without thinking twice, Avery suddenly pulled Kai closer against the corner of the store they were standing beside. Kai turned and looked at her with a sharp gaze.

''Detective Gid and his men are around…'' Avery said softly with a reddened face. She tried to hide her face between Kai's shirt.

Kai looked around and saw Detective Gid and his men. He stepped closer and lowered his head. He raised his hand and touched Avery's chin and his fingers brushed against her lips.

Avery's body tensed up and she instinctively closed her eyes. Kai looked at her sensually and used the bonnet in her hands to cover her side profile, hiding her from sight.

Avery could smell Kai's cologne from their close proximity. His cologne smelt good and was very tempting. Avery's lips moved and her throat throbbed.

Kai watched Detective Gid until they got back into the car.

''Are they gone?'' Avery asked and Kai looked at her. His lips curved into a smirk when he saw her cute reddened face. Her hair was still slightly wet so the water dripped from her head down to her…

Kai shook his head and stepped back when he realized where his eyes were moving to. even though the trench coat was bigger than Avery, she had quite a bosom. It didn't also help that he could tell she was wearing just a towel inside the trench coat.

When did he become such a lewd person? Was it because he hasn't being with a woman for so long? His head was beginning to mess with him.

Kai's phone rang, bringing him back to his senses. He turned away and answered it. ''Come to the store behind the subway. We are there.'' He said before hanging up.

''Is someone coming to pick us?'' Avery asked innocently. She had no idea what was going through Kai's mind.

''Mm!'' Kai replied.

Soon a car pulled over and Mr. Jun rolled down the window and called. ''Prosecutor Oak, over here…''

''Let's go!'' Kai held Avery's hand and pulled her along as he walked towards the car.

When they got inside the car, Mr. Jun looked at them with a weird gaze. Kai sighed and asked him.

''Are you not going to drive?''

''I am… where to?'' Mr. Jun asked.

''My place.'' Kai said and looked at Avery. She didn't say anything against it and simply looked outside the window.

Mr. Jun smirked and drove the car away.

Hans Island Police Station.

Detective Gid got down from the car with the other officers. He saw Mariah and Suleiman standing at the top of the pavement and he walked over.

''Didn't they go to arrest Senior? Where is she?'' Suleiman muttered.

''Judging from Detective Gid's face, it wasn't successful.'' Mariah said.

''Constable Mariah, I hope you didn't inform Detective Avery that we were going to arrest her, right?'' Detective Gid asked.

''Do I have a reason to do that? Detective Gid must have forgotten who is he the senior here, right?''

''Of course not. You are the senior here but our rank is almost the same now. I will be a constable soon too.'' Detective Gid replied.

''Is that why you want to arrest Senior? You shouldn't have ever called senior names because right now you are even doing more than she did in the past. You are now a puppet for the higher ups.''

''Suleiman, do you want to join your senior as traffic managers at the traffic points? Then again, your senior doesn't have a job to begin with because she is on the run. Very soon, her pictures will be pasted all over the place for everyone to see. You should call and tell her to hand herself in before it's too late.'' Detective Gid mocked before going inside.

''You…''

Mariah held Suleiman back when he raised his hand to attack Gid.

''Don't do anything stupid, Suleiman. It will not help Avery in any way.'' Mariah said and went inside.

...

Kai's apartment…

Avery walked out of the guestroom wearing the pajamas that Kai lend to her. She clasped her hands nervously as she walked towards him. Kai was in the kitchen when Avery came out.

''It's a little bigger…'' Avery said awkwardly and chuckled.

''Sit down, I prepared coffee for you.'' Kai said as he sent the mug towards Avery. He looked at Avery in the pajamas and smiled.

''Mm! Thank you!'' Avery sat down and sipped the coffee. She looked at Kai and asked. ''How… how did you know Detective Gid was coming to arrest me?''

''Suleiman told me. Your junior is quite reliable. He said he was calling you but you weren't answering the phone so he called me instead.''

''I see… right, my phone. I think I left it in the gym.''

''It's here. I picked it up when we were leaving through the secret door but I turned it off because your location might be tracked.''

''Where is this place? I noticed it is far from the City and is a little remote. It's this where you live? Avery looked at the tinted glass house. Everything in it smelt of wealth. It looked expensive.

''This is my private home. I come here anytime I want to get away from the city. This is where you will be staying for the meantime. Only Mr. Jun knows this place.''

''Then, what about you?'' Avery asked.

''I will be staying in my apartment in Hans Island. I know you feel uncomfortable around me, so I won't bother you with my presence. I will only come here two times a week and that is to bring you things you might need…''

''I…''

''I will bring your stuff over tonight. If there is anything else you need, you can let me know. Just send me a message.'' Kai said and stood up.

''Wait… are you leaving already?'' Avery asked.

''I still have work to do and I also need to figure a way out to stop detective Gid from arresting you.''

Avery put the mug of coffee down and turned to face Kai. ''I can handle Detective Gid on my own. I know why he is doing that. But that's not what's important. I need to make something clear. I don't feel uncomfortable around you. I'm just used to be being alone for the most part of my life, so I find it a little difficult to accept help from others without thinking that they have ulterior motives.''

Kai nodded his head. 'I understand.''

''No, you don't. Okay, I think I need to apologize for my behavior at the hospital. I shouldn't have spoken to you that way. I was just… Prosecutor Oak, you don't know how messed up my life is. You are a righteous and just Prosecutor, if you continue to be linked with me your career will suffer. What I hate more than my life itself is for someone to sacrifice themselves for me. After all, I have nothing to give you.''
