Is there any chance that I could fit in there? Is David even going to let it happen?

I gave my inner dialogue a grimace. For what reason was I planning for our future together? Like them, I needed to stop worrying about the future and start appreciating the here and now. Only concerned with the now. In a few of weeks, I would be twenty years old. In retrospect, I can't believe how young I really was. I was never expected to have all the answers or to think more than a few days ahead, so no one should have been surprised by my inability to make good judgments now.

I saw a white blotch in the distance making its way toward the automobile. The coat in question. Jesus. Carl slid into the driver's seat and punched the button to start the vehicle, and I felt a shiver go down my spine. I melted against the seat as he looked at me as it roared to life.

The words "Drive fast" came out of my mouth in a hushed whisper.
