ELENA
My heart was drumming nervously against my chest as I walked steadily through the door of dad's room. A nurse was already in there checking up on his health.
As soon as I walked in, she smiled at me in acknowledgement, but when Devon followed me, her eyes grew in size, and a blush crept down her cheeks.
She was at least a decade older than Devon, for God's sake!
I was tired of witnessing the unimaginable female attention that man received. And the fact that now he was my fiancee, made it impossible for me to ignore.
"G-good evening, Mr Sanders! It's nice to meet you!" She came forward to greet him.
But as expected, he offered only a curt nod before passing the bags in his hand to her. At least the woman was wise enough to take the hint and not bother facial muscles to stretch painfully in a more than necessary wide smile.
Dad looked relieved to see me, but when he noticed Devon standing beside me, his face morphed instantly into worry.
