And so they descended to the Earth, with the little green bundle and the promise they made to Damaris.

As they walked through the hallways of Heaven together, towards the nearest set of pearly gates, Atticus could feel dozens of eyes following them wherever they went. No doubt word had already spread about the fight in the Garden. Even those who hadn't witnessed the scandal firsthand were still keen to see how the situation resolved itself. But neither Ruth nor Atticus said a single word as they strolled side-by-side. There was no need for any more gossip in Heaven, and Atticus had no need for any more attention.

It was Atticus' first time touching down on Earth without a crowd of other angels accompanying him. Ruth was entirely at ease, but Atticus felt strange, being amidst the open wind and untamed life. It was as though the two of them were more exposed to the world than they usually were. No Damaris, no fellow choir members, just them. Now they only had each other.
