Sure enough, as soon as the name was off Xander's tongue, Bentley paused completely.
"What makes you think he's waiting for me?" She asked.
"..."
Was she really that ignorant? She wasn't still pretending to be blind, was she? Rolling his eyes, Xander stood up straight.
"Bentley, don't act all stupid," He said firmly, "You know exactly how that angel feels about you,"
But Bentley really was that stupid.
"Hatred?" She asked jokingly, "Unspeakable rage?"
She really hadn't noticed. She hadn't noticed that infernal look in Atticus' eyes whenever they were together. She hadn't noticed that he only seemed to smile when he was with her —or just talking about her. She hadn't noticed their mutual desperation to keep each other safe. And worst of all, she hadn't noticed that Atticus was the only one who could touch her without her recoiling immediately.
