We wronged her

An hour had passed with Edric almost emptying more than half of the bottle, yet the pain in his chest didn't subside. Rather, it kept getting wider and wider until he was unable to hold on.

Pulling out his phone, Edric speed-dialed Emily's number and waited for her to pick up.

Edric failed to notice that he was already crying, and then she answered the call.

"Emily," Edric called her name with the most heartfelt endearment and smiled sadly.

When Emily noticed Edric's tone, she scowled and asked, "Have you been drinking, Ed?"

Edric leaned back in his chair, grinning foolishly, unable to contain his delight at the way she addressed him by name.

Edric had never realized how much he missed hearing Emily address him by the name she would only use when they were alone, and tonight he finally heard her say it.
