Chapter 96 - The Dark Side of War.

[Chapter Size: 2000 Words.]

Third Person POV.

Riverrun.

...

...

The northern army and the Lannisters finally clashed with each other in the following weeks after the northern army passed through the Twins, under the command of the Lord of the Crossing, Walder Frey.

No one knew the deal exactly outside the army, but there certainly was one — knowing how old Frey acted, always trying to get something out of everything and seeing that the North needed him, he certainly took much more than just that.

So in one of the first moves Robb Stark made as commander in the absence of his father.

Then to everyone's surprise, while all were shocked by Robb Stark sacrificing 2,000 men to deceive Tywin Lannister, he captured Jaime Lannister and imprisoned him.

"Hahaha!"

"Stop, please!"

Footsteps...

"You'll be my prize today, feel honored!"

Footsteps...

"Father!"

"Don't worry, he's dead."

Footsteps...

The man who had taken off his armor to lower his pants and remove the cheap dress from that peasant woman as he began to rape her didn't even hear the footsteps coming up behind him, as a huge shadow appeared behind him.

The woman was still trying to call for help, and the man felt great pleasure in it, but then it happened.

The sound of flesh being sliced was heard as the man seemed to take a few seconds to understand what was happening, then the pain came.

"Ahhhh!! My leg!!" he screamed immediately, looking back, as he saw a man with a sword on his leg, while he kept the leg pinned to the ground as he removed the girl's dress.

The girl finally saw herself free from the grip of that man as she backed away, scared by the man's screaming, while she got up and tried to cover herself with the torn dress while crying, looking at the one who had touched her, now screaming in pain as there was still a man with the sword piercing his leg.

"What do we have here..." the stranger's voice spoke as he looked at the man pinned by his sword while staining all the grass of that small farm with the blood from his leg.

"Get this off me! You bastard!" the man cried.

He tried to lunge at Jon with his hands, but the Dragonborn grabbed him and threw him to the ground in one motion; in the next moment, he pulled out a dagger and drove it into the hand, pinning it to the ground as well.

"AHHHH!!!" the man screamed again from the unbearable pain he was feeling at that moment.

"Well... how about you answer my questions..." Jon calmly remarked, looking at the stranger.

"Go to hell!" the man shouted.

"I wasn't talking to you..." Jon said, and at that moment, the barn door opened with a man adjusting his pants and entering with a sword.

"Harrik! What's going on?!" he shouted quickly as he saw the stranger simply throw something at him — in the next moment, a sword struck his thigh, making him fall to the ground immediately with a cry of pain.

"Ahhhh!" he screamed while the young girl seemed to tremble in fear.

"Too much screaming." Jon calmly remarked as he pulled the sword from the first man's leg and struck his neck, killing him on the spot.

The man with the sword in his thigh, amid the pain, saw that and couldn't help but be terrified, seeing the stranger getting closer and closer with the same sword.

"Who are you?! We're from the northern army!!" the man shouted.

"Yes, I know your sigil well — Freys..." Jon said, approaching without a care.

"I want some information, but I ended up seeing you raping women... I bet you're scouts from the army and found this farm... I didn't know northerners allowed this."

Obviously, three people lived there who hadn't fled the war, while the man's corpse was inside, killed by the same man now lying on the floor — afterward he raped the woman and the girl's mother with her husband's corpse still fresh in the place.

The other, whom Jon killed, took the chance to do the same to the girl.

"You're dead, you son of a bitch!" the man shouted.

"Why do people curse so much... not even in Skyrim did they use such language..." Jon remarked with an ironic tone.

"You're going to tell me something."

Jon approached the man with cold eyes, showing that he would have no mercy on him in the next moment.

"What do you want?"

The man no longer had the same courage, crying from the pain in his sliced and bleeding thigh while looking at the man in fear.

"I need information about the Mountain. Do you know where he is?" Jon asked.

"He... I heard he was further southwest from here! Besieging some villages!" he said.

"Are you going to let me live?"

"Tsk. Of course not, I wouldn't even if you had chosen not to tell me."

Jon spoke, and the man didn't even have time to react before the sword struck his forehead, killing him right there.

Jon remained silent as he saw the door open and a woman covering herself, running out to her daughter.

'The harsh reality of war... where the weakest suffer...'

Jon murmured internally.

The man shouldn't have been there with his family; he fell, and his wife and daughter suffered because of it...

Of course Jon couldn't say he could change that — after all, this was happening everywhere in this kingdom, whether it was the northern army or the Lannister army, even Riverrun's own soldiers, as one could see...

He had avenged them from those Freys, but surely thousands of others were suffering — and he couldn't do anything about it.

"You can stay here... the northern army will soon come to see what happened to their scouts. Tell them the truth.

With that, I'm leaving."

Jon spoke to them as he left the mother and daughter crying among corpses.

He couldn't take care of everyone either, and he still had a goal to fulfill.

Leaving the two behind, he moved on, letting out a small whistle to make his horse follow him, before mounting and heading toward that area.

He didn't even need to ask where to find the Mountain — he could be guided by clairvoyance, and the man was only slightly wrong, because the Mountain was to the west.

Heading there, he found several villages pillaged, full of corpses and all kinds of people — he just didn't know which group had done it, since he couldn't trust anyone.

Jon had already participated in many battles and even a war in Skyrim — he couldn't help but encounter such scenes in his adventures exploring the world, while some groups of bandits were responsible for wiping out entire villages, or stealing women and killing men.

But war was an even crueler scenario, and all kinds of crimes were committed.

Jon kept moving through the destruction.

Tywin's men had been released as soon as his son was captured by the fish of Winterfell.

Even Jon found himself wondering what that woman had in her head, putting her husband and homeland at risk — after all, Tywin Lannister was known for not letting anyone stain his family's name.

Jon would be the one to destroy the Lannisters, but no one else could do what he did in this world.

Either way, he continued the journey until nightfall.

His dreams came close to dawn, while he was watching through Ghost's eyes in the tent he had set up within the camp.

He always watched to see how things were going in the camp — after all, he was still the one in command.

He saw his aunt sewing in the morning along with Lucis, while Val brought hot coffee for them, since Jon had left them a good stock of whatever they might need.

He heard some of their conversations, many of which were about him, and even noticed them looking at the wolf, hoping he was watching them.

At the end, Jon stopped using his Warg power through Ghost and got up from his small camp. His eyes turned white one last time to see through a raven in the sky. When his eyes returned to normal, he smiled.

"Looks like I'm finally close to you..."

Jon had found the Mountain heading toward a small village.

He mounted his horse and headed to the road.

A few hours later, he finally reached a village already in chaos, people fleeing while Jon continued forward. There were at least around forty Lannister men there.

Ignoring the burning houses, he rushed toward an inn after leaping off his horse. Almost none of the men paid attention to him, and those who did, as he approached the front of the inn, only saw a blade swinging toward them, severing their heads from their necks.

"Stop!!"

A young voice came from inside before a boy was thrown aside by one of the men.

"Your sister will be the Mountain's insatiable feast in just a moment. So just watch and witness."

A Lannister man said, laughing while watching the desperate boy struggle free from his grip.

In front of them stood the feared Mountain, approaching a young girl on the ground — just a girl, crawling and crying, trying to flee as fast as she could, but there was nowhere to run, and the enormous Mountain was getting closer with every step.

There was a dead man, possibly the father of the two, who hadn't even had a chance.

The girl was about to be raped as well.

The five Lannister soldiers inside seemed to be enjoying themselves, ready to watch something that had become all too common in recent moons — ever since Tywin had unleashed his hound on that region to sow chaos.

But something happened at that moment.

A gust of wind broke through the air as an arrow flew from the entrance, striking the Mountain's buttock.

He jumped, stunned, the arrow hitting his side and blood spurting out. The arrow hadn't gone in deep — it was just meant to startle — but everyone was stunned, especially because the Mountain had removed his armor.

He immediately turned around along with the others, and they saw a man at the entrance, looking in with a satisfied smile at what he had just done.

"What do we have here... a pedophile and rapist...

Well, lucky me for finding you. After all, you're exactly who I was looking for, right? Mountain..."

Jon said calmly.

The Mountain said nothing as he stared at the stranger with pure hatred, bow in hand.

He simply ripped the arrow out of his backside in fury, letting blood run down, and began charging at Jon in a rage.

Jon only smiled at the sight — it seemed he was finally going to deal with this man, one of those who caused the most suffering, to the point of defying even the gods of this world.

After all, he had received something in particular — something he hadn't yet revealed — from one of the Daedrics.

As the man charged at Jon in front of everyone, far away, a group of riders moved through the forest.

"He camped here, my lord... left a few marks, though they are faint,"

a Northman said to his lord.

"I see... then we're close. Let's continue until we find him!"

Robb Stark said as he rode forward, a force of fifty men following the trail of the man who had killed two of their scouts in the farm incident.

"Fus Ro Dah!!"

At the same moment, the entire wall of the tavern exploded, the force echoing like thunder, drowning out any other sound in that village full of fire and chaos, as a body was sent flying like a ragdoll, crashing hard into the ground.

ROOOOOOAAAARRRR

At the same time, a beastly roar erupted from inside the tavern, catching all the Lannister men there off guard.
