11. Funeral

At this very moment we were in the cemetery watching how they were burying my father's body. Many of my father's associates had come, I think more than anything to make sure what was said was true.

Once we were done here, we would go to our house to have a meeting. At first it was going to be from people close to Francesco, but since my father's associates kept asking what would happen to the business, we decided the best thing would be to get them all together to make it very clear the business was going on. Although on second thought, we would meet in an office my father had a couple of streets away from home so as not to attract the attention of the DEA.

At some point I was able to see the man who helped me this morning, Hugo, I think I remember his name. As soon as I look at him, he smiles at me, which brings a small smile to my face as well. I don't know what's wrong with me with this man, I just know I don't like it.

Once the funeral was over, we went home and at eleven we were going to talk to the partners. Upon entering the house, my mother stared at everything, I suppose she remembered everything she had lived with Francesco in this house. The hours went by with practically no noise until night came.

"I think we should change the appearance of the house to a more modern one." Analissa said to nobody in special. Megan and I looked at each other and Megan shrugged, "If it's what you want, do it." I said, because I really didn't care if she did it, if it helped her clear her mind.

"Mommy, I'm sleepy." Alison said next to me. I kissed her on the temple and took her in my arms "Let's make you some dinner and I'll take you to bed, okay?" I got up from the sofa to go to the kitchen to make her something for dinner. While I was making Alison's dinner, I start thinking about what we're going to do to those stupid people who dared to murder my father, because if there's one thing I know for sure, it's it won't stay how things are right now. Maybe I was going to pay them a visit after I put Alison to bed.

Once I finished making dinner, I called the rest while I went to the office to look at a couple of papers before going to the meeting, but everything was a mess, so I started to tidy everything up a bit.

"You should be dining with us and not here alone." Megan said from the doorway. "I'd like to, but we've got more to take care of, Megan." I didn't look up from the papers as she started walking towards the desk. "So, what you said is true." She said sitting down in front of me.

"What do you mean exactly?" I asked, putting down the papers and focusing my gaze on her "We'll take the mafia." She said, but I don't understand why she thought I didn't mean it "Yes, we'll take care of her, well, you can help me if you want, if not I'll find a way." I leaned back in the chair and sighed. If there was one thing was more than clear to me, it was if Megan didn't want to get involved in the mafia issue, I would understand her and not even bother me.

"Of course, I'll help you, it's our way of protecting ourselves from those stupid guys" I nodded and took a drink of the tequila I had on the table. "Will you help me?" A small smile appeared on Megan's face, who ended up pouring herself a drink and crossing her arms. "Didn't you think I wouldn't? We will always need protection. Even after we kill those guys, we'll need the mafia… I'm not saying it's for us anymore, but for Alison and Mom."

That was true, and apparently it didn't bother her too much. Plus, I know there were a lot of ways I could help with the mob, in ways I couldn't if I was just a millionaire. "What were you here for, Meg?" I asked "Your daughter wants to go to sleep, but not before saying goodnight to her mother and reading her a story."

I closed my eyes for a second and sighed "Shit..." I knew Megan was staring at me, I don't know why exactly, but she was "Ale, I want to ask you for something." I opened my eyes and waited for her to say what she wanted "I don't want you to lose focus on taking care of your daughter because you want to take revenge on the Russians. He doesn't deserve to lose you no matter how much we need the mafia" I nodded, because she didn't have to tell me that, I wouldn't do it for nothing in world.

"You don't have to worry about that, because Alison is on top of everything on my list, even taking down the Russians," I said and she smiled. "As much as I don't like the sound of that, I'm glad to hear it." We just had our drinks and were about to leave the office when I remember something "By the way, we'll be leaving in an hour." I said "Why so soon? I thought we would meet the partners at eleven." She asked "And we will, but first we have to make a stop."

"Can you be clearer please?" she said, annoyed I didn't say anything to her. "Let's go to the winery." I said vaguely "To whom exactly?" I could notice her excitement at times "We'll go for Leo, but we'll stop by to visit Dimitri."

I knew she was practically smiling like she was crazy, but it was something we would both like. "I like that idea."

With that, we left our father's office and I went to look for my daughter to put her to bed. Once we got there, she puts on her pyjamas, grabs a princess book and gets into bed ready for me to read the book to her, but she was so tired, she falls asleep before I finished reading it.

Before leaving, I cover her well, I kiss her on the forehead and I leave without making too much noise, even though she is a heavy sleeper, I don't like to risk it. "Did she fall asleep that fast?" Diego asked from the door. "You should know she falls asleep fast." He nodded and we both left the room.

"That's true, but I thought that had changed. After all, it's been a year since I last saw her." I denied, because if my daughter adored something, it was sleeping "Well, now you'll see her every day. Now do me a favour." I said turning in his direction "Whatever you want, beauty." "I need you to tell security to watch for anything, and I need the two best men in this house to come to the office, now."

I know he wasn't understanding anything, but after what happened when Dimitri was at home, I needed the best bodyguards, regardless of Diego, to take care of her. "Why do you need them?" he asked, following me. "To take care of Alison." I replied "Aren't you going to be home?"

"I have to go out, and Megan will come with me. Obviously, you will also come because I know there is no way to convince you otherwise." I'm quite sure a smile appeared on his face "That's true." I denied, because even though I would have liked Diego to stay with Alison, I know it wasn't going to be wanting, especially if we take into account fainting this morning.

"But I would like you to stay at home taking care of Alison." I said "Don't worry about her, I'll leave the best men in charge of her." He said convinced, but it would be better if they were the best, because if something happened to Alison, no matter how small, she would kill them without hesitation. "You'd better, well, have three of them to come."

The surprise didn't take long to appear on his face, probably because he did not understand why I wanted three now "What do you need them for?" asked "One will come with us." He stared at me without understanding anything yet "For what exactly?"

"You will not be scared by what you are going to see, so I need someone to see what we are capable of doing in case they betray us." I said "That's a good idea." I nodded, because that was already more than clear to me "I also need you to tell them that tomorrow at half past five I want them in the backyard."

His eyes increased the normal size by two, if Diego and Megan hated something, it was getting up early " Why does it have to be so early? You know I love my sleep." He said offended, but I already knew that and the truth didn't matter to me "I know, but I have more things to do, so I need you at that time. I am going to teach them how I want them to work." He shook his head and put a hand in his pocket. "You would do well to be a high official in the army."

I laughed, because that was not true, and to begin with what I was doing wasn't compatible with the army "I doubt it, now do what I told you, and in half an hour I want you at the door of the house." Diego straightened up and put his hand to his forehead making him deny, sometimes he could be like a small child "At your command, captain. Where do you want me to send the men?" "My father's office, I'll be sorting out a couple of papers there with Megan."

"Are you going to need me there?" he asked, stopping in front of the office door. "I wouldn't need you if you weren't my right hand, but since you are, you'll have to be there." He stared at me confused "I thought it was the guy who told you what happened with your father, or your sister." He said half in a whisper "Make no mistake, first of all, Adriano can't be my right-hand man, I don't completely trust him considering he's starting to falter when it comes to kill people, and second, Megan will be the boss." I said opening the door "You will say one of the bosses, because you will be the other."

Megan appears from the other side of the hallway and stands in front of the office door, next to Diego "We'll talk about that soon" I said vaguely, I didn't see myself as a boss, Megan was good at that "I'm going for the men, I let you two talk."

Diego left, leaving my sister and me alone in my father's office. She closes the door and sits in the opposite chair, looking in my direction. "I don't plan to be the boss of all this, Ale. You will be the one who wears the numbers, it should be you." I denied, because that had nothing to do with "And you will be the one who shows your face, you deserve that place." I said crossing my arms, "Okay, but on one condition." I raised an eyebrow knowing more or less that was what she wanted in exchange for that "You will be the other boss."

I shook my head and leaned back in my chair. "Megan, I'm not good at talking in front of people." I said, because if I wasn't good at something, it was talking, and even less for other people "But you're good for everything else, so you're the boss with me or I'm not." I nodded more than anything because I knew she wouldn't change her mind. "Okay. Tomorrow, we have a meeting at half past five in the morning."

Like Diego, Megan's eyes doubled and she stood up, placing her hands on the table. "So early????" I laughed and nodded "Yes, we have to teach security the way we work, because it's over, all the dead who turn up now will not know what happened to the Italian mafia."

"As you have been doing up until now." I nodded. "To the police and the DEA, the Italian mafia will be dead. They won't know it's us." She sat back in the chair across from me and crossed her arms, "But they'll focus on the person they're doing it on."

I laughed, because until now they hadn't the slightest clue who it could be, and that would continue like this, I would take care of that myself if necessary "They chase shadows. They have no idea who the mystery killer is." Megan turned her head slightly, looking at me. "They really have no idea? People on the street have a slight idea we were the ones who were murdering those guys."

"But on the street, they are not sure it's us either." I said with a smile, and they really didn't have the slightest idea who we really were, so it wasn't something really worried me too much "And you're not afraid the informants the DEA have will tell them the Italian mafia isn't dead as they think? They will end up learning that it is us."

"No, because no one will know our real name." Megan wasn't understanding anything, but in this one they didn't know our names, practically no one had the slightest idea we were Francesco's adopted daughters and that played in our favour.

"I'm not understanding anything." I shook my head and laughed. "I'll explain it to you tomorrow afternoon." Right at that moment, Diego and the boys he had to bring with him come in. I order two of them to have one stay at Alison's door and the other at the window, I wasn't going to risk anyone coming in like Dimitri almost did and once finished, I leave the office with Diego, Megan and the other man behind.

On the way to the warehouse, I call Adriano to be there, I needed him, because if I'm sure of anything, it's that stupid Leo was going to deny everything, and I wasn't going to allow anyone to see my stupid face, no at this stage.

"You have thought about what you are going to do?" Megan asked next to me. "Talk." I said calmly, but with a smile on my face "That smile tells me the opposite. I remind you, you have a meeting with the partners later." Diego said behind us "And I'll be there just in time, don't worry about it Diego."

Once we got to the warehouse, Adriano was waiting at the door, some of the boys were pointing at him, and he looked scared.

"Stop search him, it's one of ours." I said with my poker face, just like Megan had. "Are you sure miss?" asked the man "Sure, now leave him alone and keep watching. Any movement and you notify me immediately, understood?" They both nodded and we went inside.

We went to the place where Leonardo was. Before entering we can already hear how he yells to get him out of there, they have the wrong person. As soon as we entered the room, I could see how his gaze calmed down, big mistake. "Good thing you've come to get me out of here Miss D'angelo… The Russians have me here since last night."

"Oh yeah? And how is that?" I asked as if I had no idea what he was talking about. Megan had leaned against the wall behind us with a smile that declared her intent. "They broke into the house last night, and I did everything in my power to keep them out, but they killed half the staff and brought me here."

I couldn't stop a smile from appearing on my face. This guy was stupider than he looked, I don't understand how Francesco trusted him so much. "Oh, and I thought you hadn't noticed they were home." I said starting to walk around him "Yes, we hear them late... they started shooting like the crazy people they are."

Megan rolled her eyes and I smiled at her, "Well let me tell the Russians hadn't fired until I found them. If it wasn't for me, they would have entered my daughter's room." I said standing in front of him "What?" he asked surprised and I couldn't help but laugh "Do you really think it was the Russians who killed half your people or what?"

"What are you talking about?" I could see how fear was beginning to enter his system, which it was time for him to do, we weren't really coming to save him as he thought "I'm talking about the Russians having nothing to do with the death of your people, and you're not here trapped by the Russians."

"What?" Megan pushed away from the wall and walked over to where we were "Honestly, I don't know how my dad could have trusted you, you're more stupid than I thought." She said, coming to my side, "Because I'm the best to be your father's right hand, miss."

We both rolled our eyes and I pulled the knife out of my boot and plunged it into his leg, making him scream in pain. "Repeat that, and the next one goes straight for the chest." I said moving closer to him "And what am I supposed to have done to deserve this bad treatment? I'm your father's right hand." I put a hand on Megan's chest before she could lunge for the rat. "If you had really been my father's right hand you wouldn't have killed him, stupid." I said through clenched teeth, I really couldn't be more stupid, that was clear to me.

"You are wrong miss, it was the Russians." He said in a total panic "Oh, so now I'm wrong. Are you telling me Adriano is lying then?" I said, crossing my arms. "He always lies, you shouldn't trust what he says." He said angrily, which didn't make sense at the moment, "Adriano, please come in and tell me the story again."

Leonardo's face was quite a surprise the moment Adriano entered, and I could see how he started to tremble, but I'm also sure he won't tell the truth. While Adriano told the story again, Leonardo kept denying, and always wanted to protest until Megan threatened him with the knife.

"Now are you going to tell me that everything is a lie?" I asked "Of course he is… that stupid always wanted to have your father's place. I wouldn't be surprised if he convinced the rest to turn on their backs to your father. I'm sure he told you I killed him so he wouldn't be in my place." He said almost convinced, but both Megan and I could clearly see it was a lie, besides, I had a better surprise "But it wasn't the Russians who had killed him?" Megan asked. I could hear her smile "That's what I thought." He said seriously, which made us both deny with a smile on our faces "Okay, then I have a little surprise for you." I said "Are you going to get me out of here?" he asked hopefully "Much better than that"

I left the room for a moment to go to the car to get things. It was the evidence that said our people had been the ones who had murdered my father, and he dared to refuse after all he would end up dead, well, more painfully.

When I entered, I could see Diego and Megan's confused faces, but I ignored them and kept walking until I stopped in front of this guy. I put the video on my phone and he stared at it until it finished, looking up where I can see fear.

"Miss, I can explain what you saw, it's not what it seems." He said with a trembling voice, "Are you going to deny it?" I asked ironically, because I knew what I'm seeing "That was not true, I did not really say it."

"Oh, you didn't really mean that? So can you explain to me how the bullets from your gun ended up in my father's body?" I crossed my arms and I could feel Megan's anger rising, but she had more time to enjoy her revenge. "Anyone could have taken my gun, it didn't have to be me."

"Oh, so someone cut off your hands so they could have your prints on my father's corpse." I said with a smile, I didn't understand why he thought us so stupid, really. "I was trying to save him, you must believe me miss." He begged, but there was no begging worth "You know? I'm tired of so many lies. Anything you want to do Megan?" A mischievous smile appeared on Megan's face. "You don't ask that, sis, you know I do." She said craning her neck and Leonardo's eyes widened, apparently, he was afraid of her, curious "Miss, don't allow it, I'm telling the truth."

"Do it Megan." As angry as I was right now and as eager as I was to kill this guy, I know Megan wanted more. She loved Francesco too much and I'm sure he loved her more than me too, so I was going to let her do what she wanted with this guy.

I left the room to go to the door where Dimitri was, at least I could get angry with him, that would help. Diego followed me and left the boy who had come with us inside with Megan, at least it would be clear to him he shouldn't mess with either of us, that was something good he would get out during the day.

"I thought you wanted to kill that guy." Diego said next to me "Believe me, as much as I want to kill for what he did to my father, Megan wants it more, I'm going to let her enjoy that at least." I said leaning against the wall "Do you think you're ready to face the Russian?"

I was silent for a couple of seconds, because I know I would never be ready to face them, especially Dimitri, not out of fear but because of everything I could say I didn't want anyone to know. "And why wouldn't I be?" I asked, turning to face him. "After everything he did to you and your sister…"

I shook my head, because that's why I was doing all this, both Megan and I would like to live a quieter life without having to worry about the Russians. "We're going to be fine." I said looking back to the front. "If you need to talk later, you know where to find me." He said, putting his hand on my shoulder.

"I'm going to be fine, so stop worrying." In that, Megan leaves the next room cleaning the blood splashed her. She came over to us with a big smile, so I guess it was good to let her do it.

"Well, when are we going to kill this guy? I really want to kill him." She said, referring to Dimitri and going towards the door, but before she could do so, I put my hand on her chest to stop her, "Quiet beast, this is my turn." Surprise was evident on her face "But..."

"I have said this is mine and this will not be discussed further." With that, I walked into the room and I could hear her wondering if I would at least let her have a good time, but I didn't even answer anymore.

If something was more than clear to me, it's I would take care of Dimitri, I had many things to take revenge for after everything he did to me while I was in there. Once we got inside, he looked up and his smile widened making me nervous.

"And here I thought you wouldn't have the guts to show up here to pay me a visit. I was wrong." He said "And why am I not supposed to show up here?" I asked, crossing my arms. "Come on, we both know you're scared of me." Both Megan and Diego stood on the wall next to the door looking at us.

"Make no mistake dear, I am anything but afraid of you." And it was true, the only thing happened to me around this guy was I wanted to vomit and it got on my nerves remembering everything he did to me, but I wasn't afraid of him. "Tell that to someone else, my dear, and better get to the point of why you came." He said with a laugh, which only made me angry, but I wasn't going to let him see the effect he had on me.

"You know very well what I came for." I said "Yeah, to get revenge for everything I did, but I'm more than sure that deep down you enjoyed it." He closed his eyes for a moment, like he was remembering everything he did to me and I did everything I needed to not kill him right now. "In your dreams Dimitri."

"Not quite. Come on, I'm the father of your daughter, you could have some compassion. I'm sure she'll love meeting your father." I could hear how Megan took a breath, surprised at what she had heard, something I wouldn't want her to know, but I couldn't do anything so she didn't know.

"She's not, and no matter how much you put the sperm in, it doesn't mean you're her father." I said "That's because you didn't give me time to be, you left at that moment." I couldn't help biting my lip to avoid hit his face in this moment "And you really expected me to stay there? After what happened last time?" I asked, because if he was more than clear about something, it's that I wasn't going to let him end another life.

"It's true, it would probably end up like that for her too. But that was until I realized I really do want to be a father, and be with you." A sour taste started to rise in my throat, but I did my best to keep it from coming out. I wasn't going to show weakness to this fool anymore.

"Diego, water and battery." I said without turning around "Are you really going to do it?" he asked surprised, but right now I didn't need him to question me. "I told you to bring it." I said with all the authority I could put into my voice.

"Oh, I see you're adventurous, dear. Are you supposed to do everything to me that I did to you?" He said with a smile, which made me even angrier "You're not wrong at all. It's going to be so bad you'll wish you were dead." I said, "You wish you could, but I appreciate you trying. Especially after our first child, don't you think?

As soon as he said that, I could hear Megan take a breath again. "What is he talking about, Ale?" she asked and a devilish glint appeared in Dimitri's eyes, which had started to focus on Megan for a couple of seconds until he returned to focus on me with a big smile on his face.

"Ah, doesn't your dear sister know that?" he asked as if he didn't know the answer "Shut up Dimitri." I said about to lose what little patience I had left "I wonder what else he doesn't know. Maybe everything we did to you? That she didn't take most of the beatings because you prevented it and that's why you took them worse later? I don't know how you are able to call her sister without blaming her for everything you had to go through in there."

"She was not at fault." I said through my teeth "Oh, of course not, you had it for being so stupid to want to protect her." He said "I'm fed up." I took the water Diego had brought and poured it over him, and then I took the tongs to put them in the water, this was only going to start.

"Wait, I know why you wants to take revenge on me. This is all for our child." He said with a smile "IT WAS MY CHILD, NOT YOURS STUPID!!!!" I yelled practically glued to his face "Well, now we know he's…"

I didn't even let him finish talking, I didn't want to hear what both of them, he and his brother, had taken it upon themselves to murder my first son, beating me until they killed it. I hate them with all my might. I hooked the clamps to the battery and began to electrocute him. Out of the corner of my eye I could see both Megan's and Diego's faces of not understanding anything, and I'm sure they wouldn't understand most of the things, because they don't know the whole story, much less before Alison was going to have a child with this bastard.
