35. Epilogue

MEGAN'S POV

One year later

After one year we're going to be able to return home. I'm glad we could do it. During the time we were in Los Angeles, we went into hiding so Nikolai could patch up our story with the DEA for the rest of the world, since we would come back to life for the rest of the world.

Basically, our story would be we were under DEA protection because our lives were at risk because of the Russian mafia was after us. The part I didn't like so much was the part I hated the most about our truth about what happened would come out, but David and Hugo were helping us with that.

The DEA had held a conference this morning in Los Angeles and Italy to say the Russian mafia was disarmed and I suppose is where they would say we're alive. We really don't have much idea what they said, since we were on a plane back to Italy.

Right now, I was standing in front of Alexandra's grave. We had already ordered ours to be taken out and I know David was waiting for me somewhere in the cemetery. I can say it was weird to be standing in front of the grave of someone you really love.

"Megan, they are waiting for us at the farm. Mom called to say they would be there in no time." David said behind me "I won't be long." I assured, with my gaze fixed on my sister's tombstone and with a couple of tears running down my face "Well, it's not what it seems. We better go."

I stopped looking at my sister's grave and nodded to the man next to me to finish the job. David gave me a kiss on the forehead, and we started walking towards the car to go to the farm. During the whole way we were in silence, or almost, because little Alexandra's calm breathing could be heard. I looked back to make sure our daughter was okay, then turned to look out the window.

Once we got to the farm, we went to the garden, we went to the back of the house, because it was such a great day not to enjoy it. It was the kind of day Alexandra adored when we escape that hell. "Where have you two been?" Mom asked, giving me a kiss on the cheek. "I went to make sure they took our graves out of the cemetery." I said with a shrug, "Megan, you know they would."

"I wanted to make sure." I answered, because what I had really gone to do was see Ale's grave "It wasn't…" she started, but David stopped her before she could say anything else "Mom, leave her. You know there's no way to change this woman's mind."

"I know. Tell me how your day is going." She asked, focusing her gaze on me again "Good." I said curtly, "And little Ale?" she asked stretching her arms out in the direction of my two-month-old daughter. "She's fine, but we have to go to the doctor in a couple of days to get her vaccinated."

"Oh, poor little thing, she hates it." My mother said moving her from one side to the other "Tell me, she almost always makes me deaf from all the yelling she does, I don't know how you can stop her from yelling like that."

"Grandma power, if you want, I can go with you." She e said going to look at us "I would appreciate it a lot, David has to go somewhere else." I said annoyed he didn't tell me where I had to go "Then tell me the time and I'll show up at your house earlier."

"Alright. Where's Alison. I don't see her hanging around here" I asked, because I hadn't seen my seven-year-old niece "She's next to your father eating without him noticing."

"I don't even know why I asked. And how is she?" I asked seriously, because I knew it wasn't the best of days for her either. "Excited, as she has been since she found out." Mom said with a big smile on her face. She was also excited "Hey, come eat, apparently they are stuck in a traffic jam, and it will take time to get out of there." Dad said from next to the grill.

"And is it okay for us to eat without them?" I asked confused "I just follow orders from the boss, so let's go eat before your niece finishes all the food." I couldn't help laughing and we went to the table where Alison, Diego, Rose and Sergio were already waiting for us. Before I could sit up, arms surround me.

"Hey, how's the most beautiful person in this house doing?" Diego said with a big smile on his face "I was by your side uncle." Alison answered confused and I don't know if Diego did it on purpose or not, because he always said it to both of us, and she always ended up confused. I didn't hide my smile while Diego turned to her.

"Sorry, I mean the second prettiest." He said with a big smile "Ah." Diego turned in my direction again while I watched as David went to Rose and hugged her, and it is at that moment Diego makes me look at him. This man knew me pretty much like Alexandra did.

"Hey, are you alright?" he asked worried, and I nodded "Don't lie to me, I know today is a hard day for you." He said reproachfully "It's for everyone..." I said shrugging my shoulders "But it affects you the most."

"I hope it passes; I'm fed up. Above all, it gets worse later." I said sighing "I know, but you know what she would say to you if she was here right?" he asked and I nodded, because I was more than clear about what my sister would tell me "That nothing that happened was my fault, and we're okay."

"Well, that's what you have to think about. We both know she couldn't be better, her suffering ended. So, better relax." He softly replied, "Easy to say, but hard to do." I snorted "But I know you will, along with your sister you're the strongest people I know. Now put that happy face, because if she sees you, she would kill me to make you sad."

"You didn't do it." I responded with a small smile, because it would most likely be "As if she would understand." We laughed and went to the table where everyone was already sitting. Ale was between David and me and we took turns feeding her. When we finished eating between laughs and stories, David went to take our daughter to take a nap while I would take the opportunity to go for a walk around the farm until I decided to sit in the same place where both Alexandra and I sat to see the sky.

I don't really know how long I sit there doing nothing when I feel like someone sits next to me. I don't even bother to look who it is, because only one person would know I'd be here. "I missed the views we had from here." A small smile appeared on my face once I heard her voice "Me too." I replied.

"Diego told me you weren't well at all, and you went to the cemetery even though you knew you didn't have to be there." She said something like a reproach, but I could hear the smile that must have been planted on her face. "I had to, but you know? It's weird standing at our graves knowing we're not really there."

"Tell me about it, but you know that's not what I'm interested in knowing, Megan." She said and I nodded, because it was more than clear to me "I know." I replied, "Then tell me what is going around in that crazy head of yours."

"It's not really around much, it's just this isn't a good day, for either of us." I said with a shrug, "For me it is. I'm fine and what tormented us both is gone. What more can I ask for?"

I turned to look at her, because I wasn't sure if she was being serious or if it was ironic "You almost died." I seriously said, "Is the first time something like that has happened to me?" Ale asked as if it were something normal "No, but..." I started, but she stopped me before I could say anything else "And am I not here in one piece?" I nodded, because that was true at least.

"Well, that's what matters. I am here and we both know it's difficult to kill someone a stubborn person like me." She said laughing and I nodded, because it was true "Don't worry about it. Also, now we don't get too involved in drugs, nothing out of place will happen to us. The most damaged we can get is if we get shot or with bruises, but we won't be constantly in life-or-death situations," she assured and I nodded, because in a certain way is what we would do.

"You're right." I answered and she rolled her eyes "Of course I am, you don't have to tell me." She said with a shrug. "Better tell me where you left Tessa." I asked laughing and denying, apparently Ale would never change in that sense "With the rest."

"And how are you?" I asked curiously and a big smile appeared on her face "I'm great, but my whole-body hurts." She responded with a shrug, "Those beds are uncomfortable." I nodded "Tell me about it, I spent three days in one of them without Hugo letting me out except to go to the bathroom."

"He loves you and cares about you. Did you really expect anything else?" I asked ironically and she denied "Well no. I love him too." She admitted, and if someone asked us a couple of years ago, we be with husbands, we would have denied it "I know. I'm glad you found him, really. It looks like he makes you happy."

"He does, but so does David." She said the best she could. I knew she didn't like him very much, but I appreciated she did what she could to treat him well. "You're right, he does." I nodded. "Better, why don't we go join the rest of them before they start looking for us?"

"You're right, plus I have to meet my little niece." I said with a big smile "Well let's go." We get up off the ground and start walking in the direction everyone was going until I stop, causing her to turn to see what's wrong with me. "Everything's alright?" she asked worriedly "Yes, but can I tell you something?"

"Sure, what's up?" she asked, her concern growing, and I smiled at her to show nothing is wrong. "No, it's okay. I just want to tell you I love you. You are the best sister I could have, and I mean it Ale."

"You're going to make me cry, and I wouldn't want to cry anymore today." She said practically in a whisper, "I hope they were of joy." I said jokingly and she laughed "Obviously, but I love you too Megan." We hugged and I wiped away the few tears had escaped her, and she gives me a smile that was very common to see her in recent years.

"Come on?" she asked. "Go ahead." I answered her and once again, concern invaded her face "Are you sure you're, okay?" Ale asked and I nodded "Yes Ale, I'm fine. Go with your family. I'm going now."

She gave me one last hug and went to where Hugo was, who was looking at how both my mother and his were playing with little Tessa. It may be when we were little, both me and Alexandra had a hard time, but if you ask me, and I'm completely sure she does too, if we would go through it again, we wouldn't hesitate to say yes. It was hell we went through, but in the end, we'd gotten the family we never had with our own, and I'd gotten the best sister I could have, that's for sure.

As soon as Alexandra got to where they were, Hugo kisses her and brings her closer to him. It doesn't take long for Alison to go hug her mom and after a couple of minutes, Ale reaches for her aunt and Alexandra to start playing with her.

Despite everything we had been through after Alexandra almost died for, I don't know what time in a row and after realizing she had lost the child they were expecting, Ale looked great. At least this time it seemed like the therapy was working for her somehow, which was great since the first few months weren't easy for either of us, but as always, we pulled through. It's what we were used to doing.

"Meg, is everything okay?" David asked behind me and wrapping his arms around me "Yes, I'm fine" I replied "So what are you doing here all alone?" he asked somewhat confused and I turned around to see him with a smile spreading across my face "Nothing, I was just admiring our family and how happy my sister looked after the shit had been the first few months"

David nodded and we both turned to look at our family who were all laughing and laughing. "Your sister is a very strong girl, and I know she doesn't like me or anything, but I appreciate her more than you can imagine, at in the end it prevented you from having a bad time in there" he said, and I nodded, because it was true.

After a few seconds, I could hear my daughter's laugh and the big smile Ale had on her face, which means mine hardly catches me on my face. That picture only made my happiness more, if possible, but we were happy after a long time and that's the only thing that mattered to me David kissed me on the temple, and hand in hand, we joined our family, I beyond excited to meet my little niece, Tessa.
