Chapter 96: Forensics
3rd Person POV
The day went smoothly, they all came early and got served their breakfast and before the play, they used their opportunity to interact with every other guest since it's a very rare occasion for representatives from allied territories to come, and to represent the royal family of Zoris is Lloyd, the adopted royal child who possess the blood of the people of the Paradis Tree.
But Lloyd felt something was amiss, especially a few of the guest he talked to seem to always be on a lookout, as if they were nervous about something, was he about to get assassinated? He now approach things with caution as well, but not too serious since it was few in numbers.
When the play started, it went beautifully smooth, everyone's acting, singing, and dancing was on point, there were no flaws to it after their immense effort into their practice, the transition from one person to another, it was just enchanting, but certain people were uncomfortable throughout the play, and it seem that they really needed to go to the toilet.
One was so in a rush that once he got to the hallway, he ran to the restroom, but he couldn't even make it all the way there as his neck got cut off, it was a clean cut. No one would know the cause until they look at it from an angle, there was a thread, a white thread.
Lloyd noticed that the nervous people getting up to leave, a few other guest too, but they didn't think too much of it, even diplomats do it a lot when it comes to leaving events early, some would just come to make an appearance and once the main events come, they will sneak out to do their other business.
But by the time the event ended, many of those guests who left early were either missing or found dead in nearby restrooms. But one thing was strange, at the spot of one of the victims, there was a crude painting of a yellow flower left behind. It's either the symbol of the spring god or the yellow rose, but either way, it's a message left behind by the killer.
The play was a beautiful and one of the greatest events that people looked forward to all year, only for it to be ruined by countless victims and every member of the cast and attendees were interrogated for the next upcoming week. Several people had grudge with the victims, but not enough motives to kill them in this scenario.
The forensics team found that there are no identifiable drug or laxatives in the victims body despite them seemingly went for the rest room for the same reasons, so the best they can do was find medical drugs that can't be tracked a while after intake.
But something's strange, a few of the victims were 7 star mages, those aren't by any means weak enemies, 2 of which were 8 star mages as well, it seems their rush to the restroom and the assassin made use of their vulnerable moments to kill them quickly without any of them realizing.
What's terrible is that they can't pinpoint who did this without some evidence going against their speculation or connect the dots on how these people are related yet, so they had to release everyone home.
So Perseus easily made his way home as Persia, the traveling actor, who's exploring the world and trying to make a name for herself, so the existence of that disguise won't be found for a while as Perseus and Lilith made their way back to the Tree of Paradis.
Perseus POV
"I'll be staying with you for a couple more days and then I'm going back home." Lilith said
"K."
"That's your response, try to act more clingy or something, I'm a goddess, if you grovel and beg, I might extend my stay."
"K."
"Please stop saying that."
"K."
"If you don't say anything other than K, I'll blast you into oblivion." She's definitely getting annoyed now
"Potassium."
"I'm a goddess, treat me like one, I might just fall for you."
"Already got a goddess, having you in my future harem will overflow the goddess waifu market."
"What's even a 'waifu'?!" she retorted "And don't be arrogant, Maple is way out of your league."
"By the way, I learned that your mother is single."
"Are you out of your mind? Have you not heard the story of the roses from your parents?" she glared at me as I successfully gotten under the skin of a goddess.
I can now tick that off of my bucket list.
"I did. The sun goddess is single."
"You are literally surrounded by physical proof that she isn't, I'm one of them." she retorted
"Were there witnesses to their wedding or any officiator at that point of time?"
"They're the first beings in the world, where the fuck do you get any witnesses?"
"Did they even hold a wedding ceremony?"
"Well no..."
"Did they sign any marriage certificate?"
"They didn't."
"So her civil status is single, I can legally marry her."
"I will kill you." she responded
"You're going to kill your own stepdad, that's a bit violent and over the top, don't you think? Are you actually thinking that I can pull it off?"
Well the sun goddess is single, that's funny, isn't it?
