Chapter 130: Golden Sand (2)

Perseus POV

"He what?!"

"There's a reason why scouts no longer qualify people from your village, you know." Lilith shrugged "Back during his time, you won't see a lot of the so called 'top dogs' competing, 8 star level talents are the most popular with the occasional one or two 9 star level fighters, and a 7 star fighter dominated the tournament and was seen as unfair."

"So that's probably why I haven't heard of it. They probably never allowed us in ever again."

"Yup." she nodded "There are others who dominated too, but your village is already something people fear, so they're trying to minimize that."

"But won't that lead to corruption? What's stopping me from bribing the official?"

"Don't worry, the council in charge have sent undercover agents on the scene, the official would get into a lot of trouble if the agent were to see the person they vouch for are actually weak and pathetic. The main tournament is something very highly valued, the prospects who make it there are highly dangerous individuals.

"The prelims is nicknamed as the humiliation stage, prospects who make it there, even if they are expected to lose, they'll give a lot of people a run for their money. Unlike the human nobles who reach the 8 star level through riches and supplements, these people honed themselves to reach there and be worthy of it."

"You'd think I have a chance?"

"Are you thinking of participating?" she asked

Her face brightened up as she probably got some idea. For the record, no, if a goddess is giving out such high praises, it means that these people got game, and I only fight battles I know I'd win. And if chief Aminu was a participant, it just shows that I shouldn't join it.

"No, why?"

"I can pull some strings and get an official to vouch for you." she offered "You can even pick from either the human or demon side."

"I would love to point out the fact that you said bribes and corruption won't happen, but I forgot that it's the case only for those of average status."

"You can make it to the top 10 of the main tournament even if you don't want to show all your cards, you did pretty well with that light speed ability of yours, it's something that even my fellow generals won't be able to match."

"No, I'd end up with another fever and I hate that, I mean look at me now, tired as fuck and I'm currently a liability."

"Well we can go to this talent stage and try to find a participant from that village." Leilah suggested "This village is located in this continent and so they will definitely participate from here, Lilith can help identify who is who, we get some information and then we head for the so called fallen star."

"I need a couple days first, this fever isn't going anywhere soon."

"Alright, in the mean time, I'll contact the chief for anything I can find about this tournament." Ruka said as she got up "I'll see if he knows about that village as well."

"I'll go try and get in contact with the anti magic cult." Leilah added "Lilith did say they know something. Ruka did say she found a person who claimed to work with them, so I can do that."

She then went to pick up Buddy who is just waking up after hearing our conversation in the corner and placed him on my lap.

"You can redirect some of the cold air slowly into his forehead and some other areas to keep him stable." she suggested "It'll fasten the process, he currently can't walk outside with that kind of heat."

"I actually can, I lived in Australia for quite a while, you know."

"You can, but you shouldn't. Lilith, don't do anything while I'm gone."

"Don't worry, I won't." Lilith chuckled "It's not as fun when he's weak."

I then opened Trevor's book which I got from the temple and read it while I'm up. Buddy then gestured me for him to read it too, so I lowered it as he climbed onto my shoulder while Lilith joined me on the other side since this diary may contain something worthwhile.

I think Buddy being really close to me all the time is due to his fox like nature of needing to mark its territory, kinda similar to Leilah in a way...or is it the other way round?

They're both more similar to each other in that aspect as they're both apparently possessive. And sure enough, the diary proved it, Buddy is a very possessive and mark his territory just purely with scent unlike a regular fox that use, scent, urine and other stuff.

And Buddy is actually also the first person who warned Trevor of his wife's loyalty, even though he can read and understand the English language, he can't speak it and can only show it by occasionally snaring and biting his wife to send a message which Trevor didn't listen.

And he in the end, he learned of it, as his world came crashing down, he recalled every warning Buddy gave him, occasionally puking out food on the hero when he got close to Trevor's daughter...and everything else...

Buddy is a free spirit who likes to run around and play by himself, so he sometimes end up eavesdropping on interesting conversations, and he learned of many things that even Trevor himself don't know, and he did learn to follow Buddy when he act frantic and that's when he learned of the behind the scene projects that the humans have been doing.

Buddy is a cheerful fox, but I am warned to follow him if he acts frantic.

One of which is the artificial star program, creating a star out of nothing is an impossible task, but...in theory, a average 6 star mage is several times stronger than a 5 star mage, so now it got down to, just how many times 'exactly'?

I then turned the next page and just read the horrors of what the 4 human continents did for that which then led to another project.

"The chimera program...? What the..."
