Chapter 48: A Brother's Betrayal

-ALEC-

I can sense our mate bond again like a cool summer breeze, but it’s soured with immense pain and weakness, and as I throw the last wolf against the wall in the bloody heap and make my way into the room, I see Leena and Victor for the first time.

It’s like walking into a nightmare.

“Ah, finally! The main event,” Victor says, patting Leena on her shaved head and standing from his crouch in front of her.

“Leena…” I don’t know if she can hear me, but her eyes flicker to mine, red and swollen from tears, and rage boils under my skin and shifts me into the wolf, lips back on a snarl.

“It’s a trap, Alec!” Leena screams, and Victor turns on her and slaps her across the face.

Bloodrage is all that’s fueling me right now. The first strike that hits Victor propels him away from Leena. I have a few precious seconds, dropping a knife by Leena’s feet and turning back towards Victor, ready to end this not just for me but for Leena. She’s sacrificed too much.
