Chapter 50: The Road to Normal

“You’re allowed to grieve the loss of your brother, Alec,” I say quietly, a hand around his waist as we stand over an unmarked grave behind the old Halloran Pack home.

“It feels…wrong, grieving someone who did such terrible things to so many people while he was alive. It makes me look at everything I’ve done…”

“Do not do that to yourself, Alec,” Frank says, pulling a hand on Alec’s shoulder, “Your deeds were done for survival, his were from greed. Do not compare them.”

“He is right, mijo. Let yourself miss your brother for the man he was before he became a monster,” Stella adds, coming around Alec’s other side and pulling him into a side hug, still trying to give him space and time.

We all stand quietly for a few long minutes, looking down at the raised earth and the single wolfsbane flower that sits atop it, a reminder.
