“You have?” I ask as it is the only thing I can think to say. Lucas smiles lovingly at me and nods.
“I have,” Lucas pulls my chair closer to him and places his hand on my face. “Tell me,” he says. His voice lowers, filling with desire.
“I love you,” I tell him, tilting my head to lean against his hand. His smile grows and he leans in to kiss me deeply.

“I need some space,” I step away from Lucas and I almost regret it when I see his reaction. He looks defeated and desperate. I hate having this fight, especially with everything that’s going on in his life. But there is no other time to discuss, everything is happening right now. 


“Mandy, I love you,” Lucas starts and I listen patiently. “Let’s just talk about it.


“Yes, it’s true. With my dad’s life withering, my parents expect me to find a bride and prepare for the throne. Everyone expected me to be a good Prince, listen to my family, and marry the girl they chose. The girl they practically created for me. But Mandy, that is not what I want for myself. My parents had a similar arrangement and even though it worked out for them in the end, it hasn’t been as successful for others,” Lucas tries to explain but the more he talks, the more I feel out of place.
