{around the same time as Dead End Collapsing}
"No no no!! How the fuck did that happen?!" Yelled 46 year old Dr. Penny Wilson. She slammed her hands down on the desk and screamed at the rookie. "For 10 years I have worked on a damn cure for this plague and you let a faulty test subject go!! Do you know what this means?!" She yelled and the 39 yr rookie kept his gaze to the ground and silently shook his head. "That test subject has a genetic mutation that is more dangerous then the first dead plague. How could you just let it loose?!" She screamed and he gave her an awkward smile. "You see- what had happened was uh- Greg told me to do it-" finally looked at her. "You're Greg. Idiot." She snapped at him and he widened his eyes. "Um- uh- can I rethink my story-" he asked and she just pointed to the door. "Out!" She screamed and he rushed out. Faint screams were heard from outside and Penny pulled a gun out from under her desk. Gunshots were heard as she slowly approached the iron door that blocked off her office.
She looked out the bullet proof glass window on the door and saw the test subject crouched over a dead guard. The test subject was a zombie. What the injections did was make whatever skin was missing grow back and ripped up tendons and muscles heal back together. They haven't perfected the formula just yet so the cannibalistic tendencies were still there. Not all the error's were worked out just yet and she shoved the heavy iron door open and shot it. The test subject collapsed over the body it had been eating with a large hole in its head. She looked around and saw people running from those already bit and reanimated. "God damn it" Penny mumbled and cocked her rifle. She didn't notice that the one she had just shot was beginning to twitch again.
Her and a few guards of the facility ran and began killing the ones that had already been bitten and reanimated. They started ushering people to the big concrete building on the old military base. Once they confirmed they got everybody in there Penny and the guards were about to go in as well when one of the guards grabbed her arm. He was wide eyed and slowly pointed where they just ran from. She frowned and looked but her frown quickly turned to a look of fear. All the zombies that they had just shot had came back but not the same. Some had grown extra appendages like and extra set of arms somehow while others were able to run faster then the average human. All the bullet wounds had healed but they were all to their heads they should be dead right? Well Doctor Penny was just as confused as you are at the moment.
The guard finally snapped out of his daze and grabbed Doctor Penny and yanked her inside. He quickly slammed the door shut and got a few people to help him cover up the windows. Doctor Penny Wilson just stood there by the door trying to think of how that could have been possible. The extra appendages and healing was not part of what should happen in the formula but I guess it was a failed test that escaped. Can they not die now? That would be a huge issue cause they're all coming right to the large concrete building everybody was hiding in. There was a quiet murmur of confusion and fear but the guards quickly shushed it so they could possibly be left alone. It only took about five minutes for the creatures to get to the concrete building and they had been running from across the entire base. How the people knew they were here is when they began to see the door knob move. No one had locked it thinking they wouldn't be able to open it cause for 23 years the zombies couldn't, but these weren't the normal slow shambling and groaning zombies everyone was used to.
Dr. Penny snapped out of her daze and quickly ran and held the handle. "Lock all doors that lead to the outside! They can open them hurry!!" She demanded and people began searching and locking all doors that the creatures could possibly get through. What made them start covering all the windows was when a rock came hurling at one of them. It had been replaced with bullet proof glass so it did not shatter but it still left large cracks. They can throw rocks now?- That's just lovely isn't it. Penny thought while trying to lock the door she was holding. Loud bangs on the door were heard and she really hoped that they would eventually get bored and go away. She held her shoulder to the door and pushed with all of her strength too keep it closed.
She realized that it was no use when she began to hear part of the door on the outside splinter. Then a rock came hurling through the door and that left a hole large enough for one of the creatures to stick their arm through and start feeling around for anything to grab. Penny heard the door start to splinter in other areas and at one point something heavy ran into the door, knocking Penny away and the door flying open. The swarm of the infected came rushing in, grabbing anyone within reach. Some people manage to run out the back door while others were sacrificed to the dead. Penny got pinned behind the door so she remained unseen. She had to sit there and listen to the screams of the people she tried to protect in this facility. All she could do is stay there pinned against the wall by the door, pray that she doesn't get found, and mourn over the ones she had tried to protect that are now deceased. Being eaten alive by her failed test subjects because of one stupid mistake. One mistake the could have been so easily avoided.
At least they cannot smell. Her faulty formula killed their sense of smell so that gave her the benefit of not getting sniffed out. But that just means another sense was heightened and since their sight was already awful that means they by listening closely. Dr. Penny Wilson just prayed that they didn't figure out how to get passed that gates
