Chapter 1

"Hmm…"

With his face close to the glass, he glanced over the papers scattered across the bulletin board.

He held a bored expression, with darting eyes which seemingly saw everything.

Bright, large green eyes, which seemed like they would glow and dark purple hair, with bangs just above his eyes.

His jaw was defined and slimmer than the average for males, giving off a fragile look.

His facial features could be defined as cherubic.

Freckles dotted his face.

Resting on the top of his head was a strange hat.

Like a military officer's cap.

Black brim, gold buttons off to each side, with the school's logo centered on the brim.

It was a serpent coiled around a sword.

Extremely detailed, it showed even its scales.

His left hand rested on his chin, right on his hip.

Actively pacing around the board, his legs moved irregularly, with a wild animation compared to his upper body.

"Why are there so many clubs in this school to choose from!?"

Shaking his head, he continued to rapidly scan the board.

Eventually he found something that actually seemed of worth to him.

"The… Junior Basilisk Elimination Foundation..?"

The name alone made him ecstatic.

"Well hot damn! That's some shit right there! There's fuckers in this school crazy enough to take them on!?"

His incessant movement halted, as he seemingly pressed his face against the glass to read the details.

As he was reading the rest of the paper, murmuring along to it, a voice answered his previous question.

From the tone, he could tell it was a female.

"Yes. If we don't do it, then who does?"

Without looking away to see, he replied.

"This may fly over your head, but proooobably the nations military. The nation's infantry. But hey, what do I know?"

He continued murmuring to himself.

And she continued talking, not letting his downplaying get to her.

"We are sponsored by the Bronze Sun. If you weren't aware, they're the Japanese division of the Paragon Ascendancy."

She hoped her responses would get him to cease his rudeness, and give her the due respect.

But he didn't believe himself to be rude at all.

"Oh yeah. The UN ordered the creation of the Paragon Ascendancy to combat the rapid growth of the Basilisks population, right? That's cool."

She felt smug now.

"Feel free to depend on me to protect you if a Basilisk attacks the school, my junior."

She laughed.

"I am qualified to hunt all the way up to class E Basilisks, solo."

He didn't actually care, and treated the conversation more like a father talking to his child, merely repeating back what they say.

"Oh really? That's cool. I'll depend on you, Miss Senior."

He turned to look at her, pulling his face away from the glass.

She was in absolute shock.

It was a mix of love at first sight and disgust.

Thoughts raced through her mind.

She would think:

"What a hottie!"

Then try to stabilize herself, trying to rationalize by thinking:

"But he's a shithead!"

Within less than a second, she reached one conclusion.

"He's a cute shithead!"

She pulled her cap over her face, to hide her obvious redness, which clashed with her porcelain skin.

Hiding her eyes, the locks of her light grey hair spilled out from underneath her cap.

Looking at her in confusion on what she was doing, he saw that her uniform was slightly different than his.

Instead of having the serpent and sword on the logo like his, hers was simply the rising sun with a shield.

Perhaps the modification was because she was technically under the Bronze Sun?
