“Don’t you want to greet your grandma?” Drayce said at the other end of the phone call. 


“I thought I don’t have a Lola anymore,” Mara said as stared at my phone that is sitting on the table as I sit next to her. 


“What do you mean?” Drayce asked with confusion. 


“No honey, you have 3 grandmothers. One is Lola who is my mother, and the other two are your dad’s mother and stepmother. You met one of her when you went to the race tracks remember?” 


“Oh, okay. Why wasn’t she there before?” 


“My mom Shiela lives separately from my dad, sweet pea. I was hoping this is your chance to meet her.” 


“I have to take Valerie too, sweet pea. Do you not like her?” 


Mara looked down for a few seconds, deep in thought before she spoke. “Do you love her dad?” 


Drayce was silent for a few seconds this time and I initially thought the signal went bad until I heard him sigh. “I do.” 


“Will you be sad if she’s not around?”
