"As weird as it may sound, the man you just fought, his associate and myself are ancient deities," Kami-gatta stated. Shindo's jaw dropped. "Now I have a lot of questions concerning that," he replied. "Shut up and listen," Kami-gatta said. "What I'm about to tell you dates back several hundreds of millennia before you were even a thought. But I'll only go according to what you wish to know," Kami-gatta continued. "Okay then. Let's start from the very beginning. Just leave out the non-essential details," Shindo responded.
"Okay then," Kami-gatta began, "This is my history, along with other mystical things too. Since the beginning of time, there have been beings that live outside the human plane of existence. The first of these were Chaos and Order, the foundation of all life. Chaos, feeling that his responsibilities outweighed him, created Hakai no O, a being who's sole purpose was destruction. Order despised him but he didn't mind as long as he was working with his father. Order then created other beings meant to keep Hakai in check. Together with Hakai, they were appointed to watch over all life while Order and Chaos went dormant," Kami-gatta explained.
"So who were the other guys?" Shindo asked. "They were Hakai's siblings. Their names were Osiris, Izanagi, Izanami and Uranos," Kami-gatta elaborated. Shindo let out a little chuckle. Kami-gatta moved swiftly and smacked him out of the throne. "If you think the name Uranos is funny, laugh some other time! Now get back on the throne so I can get this over with!" Kami-gatta commanded. Shindo reluctantly sat back on the throne while holding the side of his face.
"Now, where was I?" Kami-gatta asked. "The part about Hakai no O and his siblings having to watch over life," Shindo replied. "Oh right," Kami-gatta said, "So each deity was given a role in their arrangement. Hakai's role was Destruction Major meaning that he was in charge of control of damage and chaos throughout the universe. He was also appointed ruler due to him being the first born. Over time, while things appeared fine, Hakai's sense of loyalty wavered. Was it because of the detest he felt towards his siblings? I don't know. But what I do know is that before the others knew what was happening, Hakai had already mobilized an army to go up against his co-rulers. However, they did manage to create a coalition to go against him. The battle between the two forces raged on for over five fortnights before the coalition managed to gain the upper hand. Hakai, realising that he couldn't best his siblings at this point, went into hiding leaving behind a last message. 'I will return when the time is right to finish what I started. I shall announce my return when the times are most peaceful,' the message read," Kami-gatta said.
"Sounds like this Hakai person was a sore loser," Shindo responded. Kami-gatta chuckled a little. "You have no idea" he said jokingly. "Anyway," he continued, "In the wake of what would come to be known as the Arcane war, the deities of that time decided to pass down authority to a new generation, my generation." Shindo leaned forward, now interested. "So who were your 'siblings'?" Shindo asked. "Well all but two of them were just random people who happened to be around. Their names were Ra, Ahura Mazda and Borr. The other two were my literal siblings named Ho Musabi and Fujin. And then there was me, the great Oni, Raijin. I was appointed the Destruction Major of that generation. My brother, Ho Musabi, served as my subordinate. He became known as Destruction Major two, a rank I gave him just so he could feel special," Kami-gatta stated.
"So your real name is Raijin and not Kami-gatta? You bloody liar!"Shindo shouted. Kami-gatta kicked the other side of the boy's face while remaining seated. Shindo got up and staggered back to his seat. "Please stop. I think this counts as child abuse," Shindo complained while wiping the blood off his lip. "Sorry, violent tendencies," Kami-gatta replied. "Yeah right," Shindo said sarcastically. "Anyway, back to my history, I had a pet wolf-bat-deer thing. His name was Raiju," Kami-gatta said blankly. "And is this Raiju still alive?" Shindo asked. "I really don't know. Guess we're going to have to find out on our own," Kami-gatta answered.
"So anyway, back to the subject," he said, "Since I was the Destruction Major, it was only natural to be suspected of eventually following my predecessor's actions and rebelling but because I had no problem with my job or rank, I pushed the idea to the back of my mind. Jump past several millennia and you reach the current generation, Shiva's generation. His group consists of the hypocrite himself, my little sister Amaterasu, Anubis, the man who prevented your death, a womanizer named Zeus and a wannabe pirate named Odin," Kami-gatta explained as if loathing each of the people he had mentioned. Shindo chose not to ask about it. "So why did Shiva try to kill me?" he asked instead.
"If I had to guess based on most of what he said, it's because you're meant to succeed him as the next Destruction Major and he didn't want to give up power. Either that or you're supposed to be used as some sort of counter measure in case Hakai no O attacks," Kami-gatta responded, unsure of his own words. "Me? I'm just a teenager. And a rather useless one as recent events have shown," Shindo said sounding gloomy. Kami-gatta attempted to punch Shindo for that comment but was stopped when Shindo grabbed his arm before kicking him out of his seat. "Knew it!" Kami-gatta exclaimed joyfully. Shindo was confused as to how he managed to perform the counter attack. "Huh?" he asked still in shock. "Your body has learnt from all the attacks you've received in the past day," Kami-gatta answered while patting himself down. "So what you're trying to say is that I'm adapting?" Shindo asked back. "In short, yes," Kami-gatta responded.
"So if I happened to fight Shiva again, I would last longer?" Shindo inquired. "Don't get cocky. You're no where near that guy's level," Kami-gatta pointed out. Shindo began looking gloomy again. "But it's a start. In three to five months, you might just be able to stand your ground against him," Kami-gatta said, leaning back in his throne. "Thanks for the encouragement," Shindo replied gratefully.
Kami-gatta stood up without saying a word and walked away. "Where are you going?" Shindo asked. "I'm going to be inactive for a bit so feel free to leave whenever you want. And here's a little life insurance," Kami-gatta said as he pointed a finger gun at Shindo. From the tip of his index finger, a green beam flew straight into Shindo. "That's an additional 40% I just gave you. Figure the rest out on your own," Kami-gatta said. Shindo didn't know how to respond. Kami-gatta on the other hand seemed to have a few more words to say. "When you go back, look for Raiju. He should be lurking somewhere around your school around now," he instructed before vanishing. Shindo chose not to follow him and just sat wondering what had changed his mood so suddenly. He closed his eyes and thought of one thing: getting out.
Suddenly, his body began fading in bits. "Ok, now that I know how to leave this place, I should probably learn how to get in," he muttered to himself as the fading got more rapid until his vanished. When he reopened his eyes, he was staring at his dorm ceiling. He tried sitting upright but his movements seemed stiff. When he looked at his abdomen, he realised why. His chest had been wrapped in three layers of bandages and covered by a large wool blanket. He pushed the blanket off and steadily rose to his feet.
"Guys, he's up!" Shindo heard before realising it was Korochi informing Oda and Hachi about his recovery. "Who the hell cares?" Hachi responded, half asleep. "Well you did a couple of hours ago," Oda pointed out while performing a handstand for a reason that Shindo didn't want to know. A dagger landed inches away from his neck causing him to lose balance before falling. "Talk about that and you're dead," Hachi responded, still half asleep. "You damn bully!" Oda yelled before hitting Hachi with a pillow. "What the hell is wrong with you, you nut case?!" Hachi yelled back. He threw Oda onto the floor before stomping on his head repeatedly.
Shindo walked right past them without uttering a single word. He wore his hoodie, slid his feet into his slippers, grabbed his phone and earphones before walking out the door. He made his way downstairs silently before heading towards the library. "Isn't it a bit late to be coming outside?" a familiar voice asked just before Shindo put his earphones in. He let out a sigh. "I could ask you the same thing," he responded. He looked around and came face to face with Toya. In her current state, Shindo couldn't believe that she had been the same person who sat behind him everyday. Her usual tied back hair was let loose all over her head mostly covering her left eye. Her attire did her no justice either: a black wool jacket worn over green pyjamas and topped off with pink bunny slippers.
"Tinkering?" Shindo asked, looking a bit confused. "Yep. A lot of it," Toya confirmed, sounding exhausted. "Let me guess, your roommates are being equally as stupid as mine?" Shindo inquired. "You have no idea," she answered while walking over to him. "You want to go for a walk?" Shindo asked. "Sure, why not," Toya replied as she began walking alongside Shindo. They walked around the campus reminiscing about the past years they spent at the school they would be leaving in 10 months.
Suddenly, they both heard a howl from a distance that seemed to be louder than usual. "That's odd, I thought wolves aren't common in this area," Toya commented. "Raiju," Shindo muttered nervously. "Excuse me?" Toya asked. "Toya, listen. Go straight back to your dorm, lock your door and dont worry about me. Tell no one about what happened," Shindo instructed before running towards the source of the howl. Toya pulled him back and gave him a quick peck on the lips. Shindo was a bit confused about what just happened and began blushing. "Remember, don't tell anyone about what happened," Toya reminded him in a suspicious tone before running back to her dorm. Shindo staggered to his feet, still wondering what the kiss meant. "If you're done keeping your head in the clouds, I believe a storm monster is looking for you so snap out of it and get going. And a reminder, I'm going to be quiet from now on," Kami-gatta spoke up. Shindo blinked out of his daze and continued his sprint towards the sound.
