Chapter Forty

CHAPTER FORTY

Is that me?

I stare at the snow white wolf which looks right back at me.

Lifting a hand, I step into the image of it in the water.

A white paw distorts the image but when it clears, I see the wolf again.

Reeling, I look over my shoulder at the bank of the lake where all my pack mates are watching me, frozen.

And then, Lucas walks towards me, the russet coloured wolf, and circles me, almost curiously. Then he rubs his nose against mine before giving me a loving lick.

This is me but it’s not me at the same time.

My wolf instincts have taken over to some extent and I jump on him, pushing him back into the water.

He falls back and gives me a look and then we’re both splashing int he water. Our pack mates figure out that we’re playing and they run in to join us.
