Chapter 16

Nate's POV

I feel so infuriated right now. Every time I think of that incident it gets me mad. For fuck sake I was still a minor then!

"Nate open the door"Damon knocked on the door.

"Just go away Damon"I replied frustrated.

It was quiet for a while

At least he listened.

I sat down on my bed frustrated.

"Just open the door, I don't know how to do this shitty sentimental stuff"He groaned knocking on the door again.

I couldn't help chuckling. "Then why are you here? "I asked amused by his reaction.

"To talk to you. But by being me. "He replied.

I sighed and moved towards the door pulling the door nob open.

He stood there, hands in his pocket staring at me.

"You're such an idiot"He flicked my temple bumping me to the side and walked in.

"Aww!..dude?"I turned to stare at him.

"Wipe that ridiculous look off your face and shut the door" he glared at me pointing at the door.

I shut the door rather loudly. It rattled on its inches.

"Break it will ya and then we end up in jail for damage of property" he chuckled unamused.

I rolled my eyes and sat down beside him on the bed.

We both sat in silence for a while. I am grateful he's not pestering me to talk to him cause I am not sure how to. I am not used to this sentimental bullshit.

At home mum only cares about Lan. I might as well have been a mistake to her together. But when she has a problem, it's always Nate!

"Need a stick?"Damon popped a cigarette on his lips lighting it.

I arched my brow at him.

"I thought you don't do this kind of stuff anymore?"I asked.

He puffed smoke from his mouth and chuckled.

" I said I don't drink not I don't smoke" He replied.

"You're really stupid. Why quit drinking when you still smoke?"I asked shaking my head.

" Well...I was told I couldn't do both so. I dropped one" he shrugged still smoking.

" And you chose drinking instead of smoking?" He sounds so ridiculous at this point.

" Yup" he replied.

"Only I know that you use to drink before, so since when did you stop?"I asked curiously.

I have known Damon for the longest time. I was the one who introduced him to Jacob, Luke, and Mark. They don't know him as I do. So I was beyond shocked when he said he doesn't drink.

"When I came back to town" he replied.

The smoke from his cigarette kept traveling the entire space. If someone else was in here they would have had a coughing session by now. But I am used to his smoking and the smell of cigarettes moving through my nose so I don't mind.

"Because of him?"I asked worriedly.

We both shared a look understanding what I was saying.

"No. Because of my mom" He replied and puffed out a breath. The smoke came out from his nostrils.

I nodded.

"Why did you come back to town Damon?, and don't you dare lie to me" I stared at him waiting for a reply.

He chuckled and glanced at me.

"I thought I was the one doing the questioning?" he asked looking amused.

I shrugged " Well...since you're doing a bad job at it, it's best I take your role" I replied smugly.

" So... will you answer me?"I asked.

"Do I have a choice?" he glanced at me.

" Nah. Man," I replied.

We both chuckled.

" For revenge. I came back for revenge" He replied looking from the distance.

"Da-"

"No! Enough about me" he cut me off.

His guard was up again. I sighed and change the topic.

"You do know I am not a fool right?"I crossed my arm and watch him.

"No I don't" he replied sarcastically.

I punched his shoulder not finding it funny at all.

"I know you slept in my brother's room that night Damon. And what's funny is how you both are doing a lame job at hiding it and why?"My brows etched as I observed him.

Damon chuckled and dropped his cigarette on the floor stepping on it.

"I wasn't hiding it, he was. I guess he felt awkward and didn't want you to know" he shrugged less concerned.

" That's lame" I replied.

"Nat,e, why did you organize this trip? I know you so well to know that you'd never organize a trip including your brother and his friend. What's happening?"Damon asked eyes focused on the wall.

You just can't hide anything from him.

"You're right" I sighed.

"My mum told me to keep him happy and distracted" I ran my hand through my head.

" Why?" he asked meeting my eyes.

" Dad's cheating on mum" I replied breaking the news.

"...she caught him on her way to the airport. She saw him in a cafe with a lady. At first, she thought maybe he just got back and wanted to surprise us after his meeting but when she saw him kiss the lady on the forehead every doubt was vanquished.

You know my mum, she won't let that stop her from traveling for work. Even though she's hurt inside she would still work" I sighed annoyed at my mum. She always tries to be the perfect mother. Not for me but for Lan. Cause we both know I don't need a perfect mom when I am not a perfect son myself.

All Lan cares about is having a perfect home, a mother who loves him to the fault and a role model of a father who he believes went on a business trip for months to provide for us. Sometimes I feel like he is too gullible and innocent for this world.

"Is that why you organized this trip? When did you find out?"Damon asked.

" A day before the trip. That's why I called you."I explained.

" But I don't understand what this trip is supposed to do or prevent?"Damon asked confused.

" Make him happy for a while and forget about mum and dad, 'cause when we go home life is going to be different.

Mom's back home and last night she called to say dad called to inform her his coming back today.

So I am sure you understand how our home will be when she confronts him. She's worried that lan would break down and not be able to handle the truth that his father is a scum and a cheat.

She doesn't want him to see her break down and cry and do all those things hurt wives do or say to their husbands when they find out he's cheating.

She doesn't want him to see how damaged our family is. To be honest I am not surprised he's cheating on her. Who goes on a trip for months and calls once in a blue moon" I scoffed.

" So you're her go-to guy for help."Damon chuckled.

I scoffed "I always am. The day dad hit her for the first time years ago only I saw it and she made me promise not to tell lan. She knows I never really saw our dad the same way after that day that's why she told me the news first and once again I have to prevent Lan from finding out at least when the heat is still too hot" I replied chuckling.

" So you're soft inside huh," Damon said chuckling.

"I'm not. I only agreed on the cause of mom" I refuted his words.

"Whatever you say"Damon chuckled patting my shoulders.

He stood up and walked towards the door. He held the door nob and pulled the door open.

"Damon" I called out to him before he could step out.

"..Thank you for not asking anything," I said.

"Don't thank me so fast. One day I might ask. But for now, you're safe" He replied and left.

I chuckled amused.

The light in my eyes dimmed when I realized how messed up life will be for Lan when he sees the truth once we leave this dream and go back home.

"It's going to be a mess" I shook my head.
