Chapter 27

Author's POV

It's weekend and Lan has been looking for a chance all through the week to talk to his mom.

The planned sleepover he is suppose to have at Mark's house keeps troubling as he walked back and forth in his room.

Mrs Lucy has been constantly avoiding her kids most especially Lan as she spends most of her time in her room sulking. If she comes out, she hardly speaks to them and enters back in the confides of her room.

Lan kept staring at the packed bag on his bed in thought.

His heart was not ready for him to just leave without telling his mom or seeking her permission.

That's Nate's thing, not his.

With a firm resolve, he strutted out of his room towards his mother's room.

Standing at the door contemplating his next actions.

His hands raised up ready to knock but apprehension was clear in his eyes which he wiped away as fast as it came.

*Knock Knock Knock*

"Mom.. can you open up please" he said with a meek voice.

No reply.

"Em.. mom I really wanna talk to you. " He said biting his lips nervously.

Mrs Lucy didn't reply. The more he stood by her door waiting for her reply, the more anxious and scared he got.

Lan kept pinching her finger while staring at the door with sad eyes.

"Mom I--"

"What do you want Lan! Get out!! I don't want you here!!! Live your life and don't ruin mine with your constant yapping! "

Mrs Lucy yelled cutting him off.

Lan's heart skipped. The solid harshness in her voice breaking his heart.

His eyes watered without his consent.

He smiled wiping his eyes.

"S-sorry mom" he apologized. Tone as soft as a lamb.

"All I want is my mom back." He mumbled to himself sadness clear in his voice.

Despite being hurt by her words he didn't relent telling her his plans.

"I-i just wanted to tell you that I'm going to stay over at a friend's house so don't worry too much. I promise I will be back Sunday night" he said smiling at the door like he could see her.

Mrs Lucy didn't reply. Lan turned on his feet and walked back to his room.

Deep down he wanted to breakdown and wrap him self on his bed but he knows that would only make him depressed.

His mom hasn't been herself ever since his dad left. He hardly sees her and she doesn't talk to him like before.

He knows those words weren't hers. She'd never be so rude to him.

He tried shaking off the sadness creeping in as he pulled out his phone and called Pearl.

She's the only one he can ask for a lift.

"Hey sugar...." Pearl's chrippy voice said.

"Hey can you like give me a lift?" He asked slightly uncomfortable that he disturbed her.

He doesn't like asking anyone for help if it means disturbing them.

"Yeah sure,it's not like I have a boyfriend anymore" Pearl sighed over the phone.

" When?" She asked.

" Umm..like right now" he said quickly checking his time.

" Ohkay...to where?" Pearl asked. Confusion and suspicion clear in her voice.

Lan rolled his eyes annoyed that he had to break it down for her.

"You know where" he said softly. His cheeks already tinting red out of embarrassment.

It took a while for pearl to understand as the line was silent for sometime.

"Ooohhh...your boyfriend." Pearl chuckled teasing him.

Lan cheeks felt like they were on fire. He was happy she couldn't see him like this if not he wouldn't hear the end of it.

"D-don't say it like that." He said stuttering.

Pearl chuckled at his silliness.

She laughed humoring him "Then how should I say it? Your hubby? Your yummy gum? Your se-"

" Pearl!" Lan yelled her name horrified by what she was about to say.

Pearl chuckled "relax I wasn't going to say it" she said.

He could already feel his head throbbing in just a few minutes of talking to her, how will he be able to endure the ride.

"Just come over" he sighed sitting on his bed.

"Fine..." Pearl chuckled and disconnected.

~~~~~~
Lan sat in the front seat beside Pearl nervous as hell. The thought of spending the night with Mark was making him anxious inside.
What will happen?
Will he want to have sex with him?
Does he have to read about it all?
His mind was going on an overdrive making his head throb some more.
Pearl noticing his worry and patted his lap giving him a reassuring smile.
"Relax don't be so worked up,it will be fine and I'm sure his mom would be around so nothing will happen" She said.
Lan sighed softly as he realized how right she was.
His worry flying away with the wind.
"Where did you tell Nate you were going?" Pearl asked curious.
Lan shrugged " Nothing. He was in his room throughout saving me the stress" he said.
He rested his head by the door trying to relax.
It took a while before they reached Mark's house.
The moment they drove into an estate, their eyes widened.
"Woah....whose Mark's dad?" Pearl asked surprised. Her eyes where wide as she stared at the private estate they drove into.
Lan equally as surprised as her had his mouth open like a fish out of water.
"His dad is dead" he said still staring till they stopped in front of Mark's house.
When Mark gave him the address,he sure wasn't expecting this.
He has never been to Mark's house so this came as a surprise for him.
This estate was a very private and quiet estate. Not for people like him but for people who could actually afford living here.
Their momentarily surprise ended as they got down from the car and in sync the front door of the house opened.
Lan smiled at Mark as he came out in only a khaki short and a black shirt, a big smile on his face.
Pearl gave them space as she brought out his small bag from the car and leaned on the other side of her car.
"Hey.." Lan waved bitting his lips nervously.
Mark chuckled at his shyness as he flicked his nose earning a pout from him.
"Come inside mom was so excited when I told her you were coming over" Mark said pulling him closer.
Lan's nervousness tumbled back in at the mention of Mark's mom.
Fear danced in his eyes as the thought of running away surfaced.
How would she react when she sees him? What if she doesn't like him?
These are thoughts he couldn't help but think.
"You can come in as well Pearl" Mark called out to Pearl making her turn towards them.
She smiled waving him off.
"Maybe next time, I have to go." She said already hopping into her car.
"A-are you sure?" Lan asked ,his eyes pleading for her to stay with him.
Pearl smiled at him with her mischievous eyes and nodded driving off without waiting for his reply.
"Let's go in" Mark said taking Lan's bag as they both climbed the patio.
They stepped Into the house, with Mark leading. His frame shielding a nervous Lan.
The house was so warm inside than he expected calming him a little.
"Honey is he here?" A soft and warm voice yelled from the kitchen.
'He told her about us?"' Lan said mentally to himself. He wasn't sure if he should be happy or not about that fact. Of course he expected him to tell her since he was coming over but- he feels scared anticipating her reaction towards him.
"Yes ma" Mark replied gesturing for Lan to follow him into the kitchen.
They stepped into the kitchen with lan still hiding behind Mark. His frame small enough not to be seen.
"Where is he?" Mark's mom asked as she searched for Lan.
Mark chuckled stepping aside.
"Oh dear!" Mrs Quinn exclaimed making Lan's heart drop.
His mind was already taunting him on why he came. He felt like crying at the thought of being mocked by Mark's mom.
Mrs Quinn stepped closer to lan taking his chubby cheeks into her palm.
"He is so...cute" she gushed like a young schooler.
Lan's heart lightened as his lips curved up into a smile.
"I didn't know he was this beautiful. Your description doesn't do justice to his look Mark" Mrs Quinn said smiling sweetly at Lan.
Lan's cheeks redden at her words.
"He's a gem Mark, don't loose him" she said.
Mark nodded in support of her words.
"You're welcome dear" She patted his cheeks with affection making him suddenly miss his mom. The person she was before the divorce.
His eyes watered making him sniffle.
"Oh dear what's the matter?" Mrs Quinn asked worried she did something wrong.
"I just miss my mom" he said sniffling .
"Oh dear, you can call her" she said smiling warmly at him.
Lan's eyes were sad as he nodded his head.
"Show him to your room Mark, let him freshen up. I will be leaving in 5 mins" she said turning back to her cooking.
Lan's heart skipped a beat when he heard her words.
His eyes finally noticing her dressing. She looked ready to leave.
His eyes connected with Mark in fright earning a wink from him igniting his fears.
Maybe this wasn't such a good idea.
