Death

The instant Sam tried to run away, he felt a momentary ache inside his head, which soon turned into a peculiar feeling of having lost something fundamental deep inside him.

Not paying it any heed, he moved.

Sam had just taken a couple of steps, when his legs suddenly stopped moving.

He struggled to lift them up, to take a step forward but all of a sudden they appeared to weight as much as mountains.

Even making a slight movement with his lower limbs felt like an impossible task.

Sam turned his attention to the abomination, just a few metres away. The sense of danger that he felt kept increasing with each moment that went by.

Although Sam was not sure how, but something about the black miasma oozing out from that creature's body gave him a feeling of mortal danger, almost as if just coming into contact of that miasma would spell his doom.

Sam opened his mouth, in an attempt to scream for help, to have someone save his life – the same life which he had tried to end countless times with his very own hands.

Unfortunately his mouth, just like his lower limbs refused to make any sort of movements.

In fact, Sam felt a sense of alienation from each and every parts of his body. They appeared to no longer belong to him.

The circumstance he was currently in, was eerily similar to what he experienced every night in his nightmare.

The familiar situation of standing before ominous existence but being powerless to do anything, be it escaping or calling out for help.

Witnessing his nightmare become reality, Sam could not help feeling extremely frightened.

But.

The circumstances surrounding him could not be said to be equal to those of his nightmare.

The thing present before him right now, although menacing was akin to an ant when compared with the mighty presence of the abyss in his nightmare.

But even then, Sam felt equal amount of danger from the abomination present before him.

Because the abyss of his nightmare no matter how mighty, was nothing more than a caged beast. While the abomination before him was anything but that.

Sam could do nothing, except watch his death slowly approach him.

The look on Sam face right now was something, that was quite difficult to discern – the recognisable among them were.....the look of terror and fear of death, a glint of unwillingness in his gaze and...a mad joy? of anticipation? that did not fit well in his situation.

In fact if looked closely enough, his face seemed to be hiding a wide grin behind the outward frightened appearance.

His thoughts quite easy to guess, if you know even a little about his life.

The hideous thing before Sam was around four metres away from him, when something different occured.

Sam's body which until now was immobile, out of nowhere made a movement.

Not because of Sam suddenly being able to move his body, instead his body which was standing alright just a moment ago, suddenly lost it's balance and fell down on the ground.

Despite feeling his body falling down, Sam did not show any surprise, actually he knew that something like this would happen.

After all, his body was not listening to the very thing that maintained the balance of a human body – the mind.

A few seconds after falling, Sam felt his thoughts slowing down and the sound of his loud heartbeats which was completely audible until now in the surrounding silence, quietened down.

"Aah, so this is what actual death feels like.....it's very tranquil and serene.....unlike the many times before." were Sam's thoughts right before everything in his view went blank.

Last thing he saw was the same horrific creature two metres away from him, it's already deformed body now nothing more than a black slimy sludge except it's head which was still somehow recognisable.

Darkness....

Darkness....

Darkness.....everywhere.

Sam opened his eyes, just to find himself in the middle of the familiar all-encompassing darkness.

Sam moved his gaze downwards, at the same immense abyss.

His thoughts right now were beyond depressed, up until now he was under the impression that his sufferings would come to an end with him dying, but alas. Even in death, he was not left alone.

The abyss and the all-encompassing darkness, looked no different from usual, so much so that the surrounding view almost seemed to give him the illusion that he had not died a few moments ago but was instead sleeping & having the same nightmare inside his bedroom as usual.

But no.

Sam vividly remembered the sensation that he felt – the seemingly unfamiliar but oh-so familiar sensation of death.

Just then, out of nowhere Sam felt a sharp pain.

Not giving him anymore time to think....hence began his nightmare.

The originally sharp pain rapidly increased and eventually reach a level that felt like being crushed under a giant's feet, a pain enough to make anyone scream their lungs out.....both figuratively and literally.

The pain was soon followed by sorrow, rage, guilt, vulnerability and grief. All equally as extreme.

Sam wanted to scream, to cry, to vent his anger, to grieve but unfortunately he was shackled to the surrounding space – restricted from any movement.

But just his gaze was enough to show the amount of suffering he was under.

His mental state deteriorating with each passing moment.

Minutes passed.....

Hours passed.....

Sam was just a step away from absolute madness and insanity, when he felt the intense emotions recede and slowly disappear.
