Deceit

Seeing Pete at the shop shouldn't come as a surprise to her, but yet, she was overcome with it as he stood at the entrance of the kitchen staring at her. 

"What are you doing here?" She asked as she swiftly reeled back the surprise and replaced it with a more stoic feeling. She shifted her eyes towards the cake she had been working on when he slipped his phone into his pocket and stepped into the kitchen. "I thought you'd—"

"Take the cue from ignoring my calls?" Pete arched a brow as he drew closer. 

Knowing he was approaching her, Lina felt uncomfortable in her seat. "I wasn't ignoring your calls. I was busy." She said, holding up the serrated bread knife she had been using.

Pete glanced at the object in her hand before shifting his eyes to her face. "You were ignoring my calls, Evelina. You know it." He insisted and he was convinced, because he had witnessed it with his eyes.
