CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
I settle into the merriment.
For the first time in a long time, I feel at peace.
I decide to head out and look at the moon.
It is the moon that made me such a powerful wolf, after all.
I leave the party.
The music ebbs behind me.
The wind is cool, rustling my fur.
I have not used my human form for so long.
But I transform now.
I want to see if the moon changed my human body as much as it did my wolf one.
I shift.
My wolf form disappears and my human form emerges.
I study my arms.
They look the same.
They feel the same.
The power in me only exists when I am a wolf.
As a human, I am just Kayla again.
No one special.
"Hello, Kayla," a voice says from behind.
I turn my head.
I can see the outline of a wolf stalk toward me.
He turns to a man as he goes.
He is tall.
Taller than Shane.
"Tanner?" I ask, hopefully.
"No," a deep voice answers.
I feel a jolt of disappointment.
Tanner is truly gone now.
I know that to be true.
