Chapter 33: Mending Fences

“You need to talk to her, boss,” Feren said the morning of Thanksgiving when she and I had our morning coffee together. Of course, she was talking about Emily and of course, she was right. But I was being stubborn as usual.

“What would I say to her?” I asked. “I’m sorry for what happened to your grandfather. I’m sorry you almost got assaulted by a sadistic shifter who is my sworn enemy. I’m sorry for dragging you into my mistakes and making your life a miserable hell?”

In truth, I wanted to talk to Emily; to somehow mend whatever rift there was between us. And what’s more, I wanted to hold her… to kiss her.

“That’s a good start,” Feren said, smiling and sipping her coffee. “Perhaps you could also invite her to our Thanksgiving feast as well. She’s been cooped up in my lodge for over two weeks because you refused to talk to her.”
