Chapter 14: Oblivion

*Brynn*

Brynn choked on the dark. It was suffocating her. She gasped and cried, trying and failing to take deep, calming breaths. What was she doing here? Why had she come? She was exactly what Cormac and Trevor thought she was. Maybe Garan, too. Even Vesta would likely roll her eyes at Brynn’s idiotic decision-making.

Why would she willingly walk into this tunnel where her sight was stripped from her? Where she had no idea which way to go, or if there even was a right way at all? Where she was so completely alone?

But she wasn’t alone. Not really. It lurked in the dark. She could feel it. That thing that had called her here. It had beckoned her to the wild, to this forest, to this cave. If it weren’t for that call she couldn’t ignore within herself, she’d be safe. Her friends would be safe. Perhaps she’d be a normal girl in the village, happily preparing for a regular life with a decent man and none of this would have happened. Hungry, but still normal - still happy.
