Mad Scientist

What was the Mother's Will?

Hilde had arrived at a turning point in her experiments. Her earthen shack had now become the den of a mad scientist as she actively sought the perfection of her creation.

See, Hilde had realized lots of things without even realizing she had realized all this until she had come across a very poignant and depressing matter. The False Life was corrupted, with the necrotic frost fire they could purge the life out of one and turn the corpse into a false life like them.

It sounded great and all until she realized one little thing. Necromancers were always able to raise the dead in mass. While yes she could do the same with the Green Sun above her it was different in other cases.

What if she was beyond range? It was something to think about. Also, it was not feasible to start inscribing runes upon each dead entity's shard every time. Which led her to the crux of the matter. A way to bring and convert all dead life forms with both a touch and a thought. Distance be damned.

And so Hilde revisited her grimoire for the perfect way to make this so. Yet she realized that to make this happen she needed to know not just what made a living entity tick but what made the thing that ticked to tick too.

The Soul.

Tier one and Hilde already found herself hooked on the aspects of the soul. Now she was seated inside her mundane shack with several books formed out of aether scattered around her as she tried to figure out what she considered the impossible. To her left on the wall was a series of lines in fours then crossed over by another horizontal one to make a set of five. Five of these arrangements with three extra lines not yet completed were visible. The female in question was in a simple toga, legs crossed and hair scattered, the cause for such a mess visible as one she scratched her head in seeming frustration.

"Ahhhhhh" Hilde shouted in annoyance jumping up and kicking her work shattering it into pieces.

"Fifty-four attempts, fifty-four failures, six log-outs and log-ins just to figure this all out." Her chest heaved as she called coldly at the leftovers of her work and fury.

"I need a break," she muttered as she dropped down into an earthen couch shaped like a pod and filled with aether generated paddings. Her body sunk in as she stared up at the grey earth ceiling.

"Be gone" Her speaker aura flashed for a second and the earthen roof disintegrated in white mists.

Hilde sighed in exhaustion as she stared out past the ceiling into the night sky. It was funny how the sun was unable to brighten the black sky. It made her wonder if it was due to tbe sun being a mini and fake or just something about the sky. Knowing how things had gone before she put her money on the latter.

Her mind drifted back to her current work. She had almost gotten into the forest to start her training when yet another problem arose with the False Life. The current one that had led her down this path of unraveling. Now here she lay nowhere close to the truth she sought.

"I wish I had an A.I to ask basic questions in here" She shut her eyes as the sight beyond helped her drift into thoughts.

"A.I" Her eyes snapped open.

"False Life". She ranted as she shot to her feet. " No it can't be this easy." she halted looking at all her mad scribbles and etchings on the wall. "Okay, maybe it wasn't easy, but still it can't be this clear after all that thinking".

The issue was simple. In reality A.Is were basically a set of programmed codes used to infer and learn data and translate information. Yet it could also be called a sort of life. Not truly living though, as such, false.

"What makes them false? A lack of life, what is life?" She paused as she thought of it. After a moment she frowned. "So due to these reasons false lives are that, false."

"But what changes are required to make a life true." she tapped her chin as she thought. The sounds of wings flapping could be heard as reanimated angels dropped from the sky and set their prizes amongst the dead.

"A body" she declared turning to look back at her scattered work. " A body has all the sets of instructions and commands it should follow. The soul is the battery or energy that powers all these instructions and reactions to move as set. " She shook her head while knocking her forehead. "No, no. A soul should be more than that. A body holds the instructions yes, but what does the soul hold." A thought rise in her mind.

"During the reincarnation..." Her body was set ablaze disappearing as the plane walker took effect and brought her to Freyja's symbol of power, the Soul Palace. There she watched the souls who manage to latch unto the bridge of burdens head into the soul palace. Her form flickered into their presence and she watched as each soul was dumped into a leyline stream. It then shot through the leylines to return to the mortal realms.

She watched several souls habit the growing fetus of various pregnant females. As much as it was interesting to see that the fusion of soul and body wasn't at immediate conception Hilde's interest lay in the body the souls got attached to. As much as she looked she saw nothing enlightening. Her body flickered with colorful fire as it vanished returning to the planes of Mistrelon.

"... the souls get attached to bodies. Which means each body is already prepared for them. I doubt the system would waste much time creating every single shell for every soul. Which means there is a way around it".

" What would the soul and the body have in common? Something tying them together. Something that would be needed to have the soul hook itself with the body and control it perfectly. without a... glitch. " Hilde smiled as it came to her.

"Puppeteer. The soul is a puppeteer while tbe body is the puppet. Which begs the question, what exactly is the string?". Hilde frowned as she realized that in a way she had made good distance but also accrued more questions. The female rose with her mad hair as she left the safety of her lab.

" Something that the soul would recognize. This is obvious since the string connects from the fingers to the limbs of the puppet. Which means the connection should be at similar if not the same points."

"Why does it sound familiar?" Her face scrunched up at first, her eyes moving from one point to the other. Then her eyes widened.

"It couldn't... No... wouldn't that make.... no no no."She shook her head while holding her face.

Hilde looked at the notifications for just a second before brushing them away her mind refocusing on the said truth. The plane walker activated transporting her back to the Star Rings. Above the golden waters of the star river, the flames of tbe plane walker burned into existence and from it, Hilde dropped like a stone.

" Just one soul. Only one. I have to know the truth?" her mad mutterings highlighted her current look right as she splashed into the liquid. The various souls parted, darting in different directions. None of them were bothered about her arrival as tbe just moved around her.

"Which one?" Pushing her intent into her eyes she saw the world go dim and then brighten back instantly.

[Chaos Sight]

The golden river lost its color, the glowing far-off realms and the bridge turned a dull grey. "Black and white". In this colorless world, she found what she desired. A soul swimming for the bridge, leaving a trail of purple behind it. The only color in this gray world.

It was the best course of event, removing such a soul. With chaos sight, she could see anything that was actively birthing chaos or its vestiges. Removing it would reduce the amount of strife, and pain forged in the mortal realms.

The soul struggled not from fear but from the panic of its goal slowly fading in the distance as she scooped it out of tbe water with a palm. Hilde noted how small the soul was, either that or she was the one who had gotten larger.

Back in the plains of Mistrelon, she waved her right arm, mist oozing from Culdre as she spoke.

" Bind and Hold." Lustrous chains made of circular links rolled out of nothing binding the soul down. The soul was vaguely humanoid in shape with a tail-like end instead of legs. Hilde settled down as she got herself ready. It was time to see if truly her idea was true. If it was then well, it would seem some developer had used the same thoughts as her. Which would make this game, very much easier to tackle.
