He woke up to the sound of the car driving away from the yard with a man in it, few minutes later the front door opened, soft tired footsteps made their way up the stairs at the other side of the passage loud bang on the floor and it was quiet again, he drifted back to sleep and only woke from his nightmare at eleven in the morning went down stairs.
