The Supervisor Watches Over

"I'm surprised. You're the first person I've seen who's gotten an A in technique. Your scores are pretty high as well."

"Really? I've got a D and an E."

"Most people I've talked to have gotten similar. Only a tiny handful have even gotten a B or A at all. I'm pretty sure their grading system is somewhat distorted."

Another boy made his way over to Kay, joining the conversation.

"Kay, right?" he asked.

"Yeah, that's me."

"Cool, so what's your relationship with the girl that was following you around?"

"Shiina? Um, I guess you—"

Suddenly before Kay could answer, the other boy got a smack on the head from Mateo. After turning around in embarrassment, he was pulled away from Kay. The boy resisted, but Mateo wasn't letting go of him. Leon decided to step in.

"It's fine, Mateo. He's just being himself," assured Leon

"No. Does he not find it humiliating?"

"Oh, come on~ we can let loose every once in a while."

"He's always loose!"

All of a sudden, the door to the examination room slid open as Shiina made her way back outside. The boy looked at her in awe, mesmerised by her appearance. He glanced at her and glanced away in succession like she was a light too bright to be looked at. His face went bright red as she raised her hand and gracefully waved at him.

"Heyo, I'm back!"

"S-shiina, um, h-how did you go?" the boy asked.

"I think I did pretty good."

She took out her phone and showed everyone her results.

Shock and astonishment spread through the group as they read her results. People quickly gathered around, staring at her phone. Their eyes were wide open, amazed by her performance.

"...how did you do that?"

"...you must be amazing!"

"...she's the princess of fighting!"

Kay was also a little surprised by her results. However, he didn't feel like sticking around with such a large group of people. Slowly breaking away from the group, he began making his way back to his dorm room. It was getting dark outside as the moon peered its head from underneath the horizon.

The entire schoolyard was quite well-lit, with large lights planted into the ground and tall lamps spread across the footpath. The walk from the training centre to the dormitory wasn't that long, only around a hundred metres down the well-kept path. The school was very clearly in the upper echelon, from evenly-cut grass to the lack of any rubbish in the yard, it was obvious that lots of work were being put into its presentation.

Before long, Kay opened the door to his dorm room. The school had provided some sandwiches as an evening snack, although there didn't seem to be any sign that they were going to distribute dinner. With nothing else to do, Kay lay down on his bed once again, staring up at the ceiling.

—Hey Rudi, don't you think that you should socialise a bit more~?

Suddenly, Kay sat up in shock. He looked around the room, seeing if there was anyone nearby—there wasn't. The room was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. Confused, Kay tried to identify the source of the voice.

However, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't figure out where it came from.

Why does it feel like it came from inside my head?

Eventually, he decided to lay back down, getting some rest before the next day. It seemed that there wasn't going to be anything on for the rest of the day anyways.

Kay was abruptly awoken by the sound of someone knocking on his door.

Making his way over to the door, he was met by an unfamiliar face.

"Hey, I'm Silas, uh, the Student Council Treasurer. We're currently going around greeting all of the new first-years. Are you settling in alright?"

"Yeah, it's fine so far."

Silas handed him one of the large boxes that he was wheeling around.

"Your uniform and other general supplies for your time here are included inside this package."

He had a look at Kay.

"Do you have a weapon of any sort?"

"Um, I don't have one at all."

"Oh, well, every student at this school needs to have one," he took a booklet out of his pocket and ripped off something that looked like a coupon and signed it. "Take this to the training centre tomorrow, and they'll provide you with one."

"Erm, thank you."

"It's fine. Well, if you don't have any questions, then I'll be going over to the next room."

"Alright, see you."

He closed his door once again as the member of the student council began making his way to the next student. Holding the coupon in his hand, Kay made his way back over to his bed. All of a sudden, his phone vibrated.

I'm ranked higher than I was expecting. I guess the academic exam must have accounted for a significant amount of the ranking.

After unpacking everything, he lay in bed once again,
