Blind

Fanfan Building, president's office.

"You said… you really want to take that Purple Old Manor?" Duan Fanbai, the president of Fanfan Livestream, looked at Su Yu who is sitting across him.

"En." Su Yu nodded in affirmation as he crossed his legs, showing the bright red sneakers that he is wearing.

Duan Fanbai feels like his eyes hurt just looking at the bright red color. He moved his gaze away as he took out the contract in his hand. "I assume that Han Yao has already warned you of the risks in this exploration of the Purple Old Manor." He spoke as he looked at Su Yu. "But, let me say it again. The history of the Purple Old Manor is very suspicious. Since no reports were made to the police over these years, then it is highly likely that whatever happened in the Purple Old Manor was kept within its walls." He said.

Su Yu didn't speak as he continued to listen.

"I am a man of science, but I know that there are unknown things around us that can't be explained by science." Duan Fanbai spoke as he poured his cup some tea. "Science might still be not enough to explain these things, but the fact that they exist around us… naturally, it is enough for us to believe them, right?" he looked at Su Yu who just looked at him. "I don't know whether you believe in them. But if you do, then I am surprised by how unfazed you are before them." He smiled.

Su Yu's brow twitched as he started to get annoyed by Duan Fanbai's speech.

"But, if you don't, then that explains how you could still bravely face them." Duan Fanbai laughed when he saw that Su Yu is getting annoyed. "Alright. Since even Han Yao can't persuade you… just don't blame the company if something happens, since we definitely didn't lack reminding you." He said as he pushed the contract towards Su Yu.

"I know what I am doing." Su Yu said as he picked up the pen and signed his name.

Duan Fanbai's brow twitched when he saw Su Yu's chicken-like signature. I really suspect that this is just a random doodle, but seeing how consistent this 'doodle' is, then I have to let this slide… he thought and sighed. He watched as Su Yu left before he called the kept the contract away.

He was about to resume working when he suddenly heard the telephone rang. "Hello?" he answered.

"Uncle… this Fanfan Livestream… is your company, now I remember." A familiar voice spoke.

"… xiao Yuan?" Duan Fanbai was surprised after he recognized the voice. It is the son of his cousin.

"It's me." Duan Yuan answered from the other line.

"Yes. I own the Fanfan Livestream." Duan Fanbai spoke. "What is it? Did something happen?" he asked.

"This matter… it is better to talk face-to-face." Duan Yuan spoke.

Duan Fanbai feels puzzled, but then since he rarely sees his nephew, he agreed. "Alright. I will have someone to pick you up." He said.

"Thank you." Duan Yuan said.

Duan Fanbai smiled as he placed down the holder. "So polite." He muttered as he called his bodyguard to pick up Duan Yuan from his university. As to why Duan Yuan has to be picked up… it is because Duan Yuan is blind.

When Duan Yuan was born, his mother has some complications and so he became blind. Duan Yuan's mother blamed herself and fell into a depression, while Duan Yuan's father searched for the best doctor to treat Duan Yuan's eyes. After all, Duan Yuan is still a child. If he knows that he has a difference from the other children, won't he feel sad? Naturally! For children likes conformity. If they will notice that someone is different from them, then they will definitely alienate them. To which Duan Yuan's father doesn't want to happen to his son.

Unfortunately, no doctor could cure Duan Yuan's eyes. Even the Chinese doctors invited can't do anything about it. But, one day, when a passing Taoist saw Duan Yuan and his father, he told Duan Yuan's father that Duan Yuan's eyes still can be cured in the future. When Duan Yuan's father asked how, the Taoist didn't answer. He only said that it can't be done for now. When Duan Yuan's father asked why, the Taoist said that this was fated to happen to Duan Yuan.

Duan Yuan's father was enraged by the Taoist's words, because the words mean that his son was fated to suffer. Fortunately, his wife was not present. Or else his wife would definitely take her own life, blaming herself for their son's suffering. But, the Taoist is still calm, didn't get mad for being called a quack. He only said that everything has a cause and effect, and Duan Yuan's life will definitely become better in the future. He also told Duan Yuan's father to not decide their son's life and just let him make his decisions.

Duan Yuan's father wanted to call the police, but when he turned, the Taoist was already gone. It was also this scene that Duan Fanbai saw that convinced him of the supernatural. The Taoist just now should have been an immortal. So, he told Duan Yuan's father to heed the Taoist's words. Fortunately, this cousin-in-law of his also was convinced of the Taoist's power. He even wanted to look for the Taoist to repay him, but unfortunately, the other was gone.

So, Duan Yuan's father let his son do as he wanted. Even if he felt sad that his son was alienated, but seeing his son looking indifferent to it, he felt that the Taoist was telling the truth. And so, Duan Yuan's father was reassured. He also told his wife about this, and his wife finally calmed down. The depressing atmosphere in their home disappeared and was replaced by warmth.

Duan Fanbai saw this and was greatly relieved. He then looked for the Taoist, even just the other's shadow. He felt like the Taoist's words have double meanings, and he wanted to know if whether it is good or bad to his nephew. It seemed like, he and the Taoist have a fate between them since he managed to find the Taoist, who was exorcising a haunted home.
