MEETING AT THE HEADQUARTERS.

Adora's pov.

I was late!

Of course this happened today of all days, my body was completely spent and I was pretty sure I resembled a walking hungry zombie as I walked to my office to take whatever it was that I needed for the meeting, i.e, a notebook and a pen.

I had had a rough night, and I prayed to whoever would listen to me that this meeting would be as short as possible even though I was already forty-seven minutes late, and about a hundred missed call from Tony, bless his persistent soul.

My Vona had been restless pretty much the while night and saying I hadn't slept a wink would be no further from the truth.

I kept tossing and turning the whole night, until I decided to go on a run and free my mind for a while, which as you can guess, didn't exactly go to plan, because I had only managed to fall asleep at 4:45 am and failed to hear any of alarm ringing,

I had finally woken up thirty minutes ago, courtesy of a nightmare that I just had, checked my phone, saw the time, froze for a little while before I finally rushed out to the bathroom, had the quickest shower known in history of were kinds, dressed up...and here I was, and for the first time in about a year and a half, I took my Harley bike to work.

I hurriedly rushed to the top floor, taking three steps at a time on the stairs, grateful I had worn a trouser to work today.

My wolf was still restless, and as we neared the main office in the headquarters, the meeting room, my heart started beating a little faster and I began to feel hot and sweaty all over, I stopped for a bit, and tried to calm myself down, wondering if I had really gained that much weight fore to be in such a state after only climbing a couple of stairs.

The air around me was denser now, I tried to will myself to concentrate as I could feel my knees begin to get weak, I leaned on the wall near me as I tried to breathe in and out slowly, focusing on regaining my control.

Was I sick?, I didn't quite understand what was happening to my body but I knew for sure that I was not going to miss attending the meeting, not after riding here.

"Vona, I don't know what's going on with you right now, but you have to stop it, right this instant for Pete's sake."

I snapped at my wolf,. angry at the stunt that I assumed she was playing on me, but the only answer I got from her was a sad growl,

I closed my eyes, in an attempt to do something I hadn't done for a while, I summoned my peaceful soul, I chanted the words over and over, letting the mantra repeat in my head, and soon enough I could feel my body and mind begin to get lighter, I let out a sigh of relief when I opened my eyes and everything around me was back to normal.

There was still a little tug at my heart that I decided to ignore as I quickly rushed to open the door leading to the main room.

"Sorry I'm late" I quickly breathed out, allowing my eyes to scan for an open seat, the furthest one in that particular row, just besides the main one, I swiftly moved to where it was, not even bothering to look at whoever was the guest of honor today.

The room was a lot quieter now, probably waiting for me to get comfortable on my seat before they resumed.

I noticed that my chair had been pulled out for me, probably by our main guest today, I quickly thanked them for the gesture, and moved to place my stationary on the smooth mahogany surface of the table, now getting comfortable enough to scan everyone in the meeting room, while trying to connect the dots on what the meeting could have been about.

There were a few familiar faces and some I had never seen before, I gave Tony a small smile when our eyes met seeing as he was sat on the opposite side of the table and he smiled back, shaking his head, probably amused by the turn of events of today, but that was short lived when a deep husky voice spoke up besides me, causing every single hair on my body to rise.

I tried my best to keep my thudding heart at bay, and I almost cried out in happiness when it obeyed me, my fingers were crossed tightly as I offered a tight lipped smile to anyone that bothered to look my way after he had spoken.

"Miss Darwina, I assume, thank you for finally joining us,.... now when you are done assessing everyone at the table, will you be so kind as to allow the meeting to commence."

If I hadn't had such a rough night, my cheeks would have probably been warm with embarrassment, I nodded my head swiftly, making a go on motion with my hand, not trusting my voice enough to speak, as I slowly began to understand why Vona had been so restless from last night,

only one word, Derek.
