Chapter 29 - Malia (1)

"You're not working today?" my mom asks as I fluff up her pillow while she sits up on the bed. Her tests came back okay so far. Nothing is alarming, but she's not exactly in the clear yet. The doctor asked her to stay one or two more nights in the hospital for another observation with a new drug they're testing on her.

I've stopped questioning why this is happening to us for a while now because it doesn't help me in any way. What my mother needs is medical attention and my care. I just hope I'm doing enough.

"No work today, ma. But I'm thinking of getting another job. I met with Heather today and she said she might be able to hook me up with the mart she worked at. I might grab it."

"Why? I thought the club paid well?"
