Chapter 35 - Malia (1)

It's nine in the morning when Giovanni and I finally leave the penthouse—after much reluctance from both of us—me from the anxiety of going to the hospital and hearing the doctor's decision, and him from wanting to stay naked in bed all day with me.

He does need to meet his father and brother for an important meeting over lunch, so now he's driving me to the hospital so I can stay with my mom all day. Irene has informed me that I'm relieved for tonight's shift—which I'm sure was Giovanni's doing. And I appreciate that. I don't think I'll be able to concentrate at work anyway.

We're just passing by the corner space in the block when I see the "for sale" sign at the door is already marked "sold". Well, that was fast. An unexpected heavy sigh comes out of me. It's not the time to be dwelling on my dream when my mother's health is declining.
