Chapter 38 - Gael (1)

It's funny how I'm the younger one, and I'm the one doing the taking care these past few years, picking up after Giovanni since the tragic night, which we all agreed not to talk about.

The fucking Morellis attacked the mansion and set it on fire. That same night, the old man—my grandfather and Giovanni's father—was killed. Many of our men died, and we weren't able to get there in time to save him.

The final nail in the coffin wasn't that Grandfather died. It was that he left a specific order—in a way, his dying wish—not to exact revenge. He wanted to end the war with his death. We could not believe it. We were all miserable coming to terms with that order because we all had to honor it, or it would be a great disrespect towards the late Don Severino De Luca.

Although… I may or may not have dishonored that wish once or twice. I don't regret any of it though. I had to do it.
