The rhythmic sound of the twins' synchronized breathing finally signaled their surrender to the afternoon nap, granting a temporary cease-fire in the daily battleground of our living room.

I watched their chests rise and fall through the video feed, my heart was full of peace that only a mother knows when her children are peaceful.

“Thank goodness they didn’t fight it today,” I murmured. “We probably don’t have many naps left in their future. They’re inquisitive and hate missing out on anything for even a second. I’m convinced that’s why they wreaked havoc on my body and clawed their way into the world as early as they did.”

Michael’s loud laugh echoed off the walls of the living room, “You’re not wrong. They’re absolutely feral. They get that from their mother.”

He winked, and I grinned widely at him. He was the most handsome man I’d ever seen, and he never failed to give me butterflies when he zeroed in his charisma on me.
