The smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the air as I entered the employee break room of the resort. It was one of the few places that guests didn’t have access to, so I, and most of the staff, used it as a place to find peace and quiet. 


I was surprised to see Michael standing near the conference table when I walked in. He glanced up at me and smiled, then put his phone away and motioned me toward him.


"Hey Lucas, how are things going?" he asked. 


"Can't complain," I replied, taking a seat at the table. "Resort's running smoothly, and the weather's been great, wouldn't you say?”


He smiled and said, “Absolutely. Business has been incredible thanks to Shelby and Lauren’s hard marketing work.”


My ears perked up at the mention of Lauren. I couldn’t help but want to talk about her, I couldn’t even stop thinking about her.


“Speaking of Lauren, any idea what she’s been up to recently?” I asked.
