My dad, Reggie, and I were about to exit the hallway when I happened to turn my head back toward the conference room and saw Lucas and Shelby near the door talking. I wondered what they could be talking about and if it concerned me in any way. The three of us eventually made it outside when my dad stopped us. 


“Lauren, I’ve been thinking. Maybe you should attend the meeting this afternoon with Reggie in my place.” 


“Well, for one thing, this whole idea of giving aid to the communities was your idea. And I have enough trust in you to let the leaders know that this resort is one hundred percent committed to helping them. I know you’ll do a great job.” He looked over at Reggie. “What do you think?” 


He nodded and smiled. “I think she’d do great.” 


I was moved. “Thanks, Dad. I promise I won’t let you down.”
