Lucas woke me up just after sunrise that morning before leaving for work. Despite the pain from the injury, I slept well that night. The pain medication the doctor had prescribed to me yesterday before leaving the hospital I’m sure helped me to rest. Plus, I was exhausted from all that I had gone through. 


Once I woke up, my ankle still hurt, and I was still a little dizzy from the concussion. The medication must have worn off after doing what it needed to during my sleep. I could feel another headache coming on. I told him all this when Lucas asked me how I was feeling. 


“Are you sure that you’ll be okay with me not being here?”
