1.12. Check mate

His face blanched and he fell back on his seat. He was trembling in anger and despair. Hell no, he couldn't go to prison before giving the company to his son, right? I got up and walked to open the door again.

"Speaking of which, they're waiting behind the door to arrest you."

This time, two policemen entered the room and went to handcuffs Richard. He tried to fight back and run away but it was useless.

"Richard Lawson, you're under arrest for the murder of Kevin Herbert. You have the right to remain silent. If you give up that right, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."

They carried him out of the room and Richard's anger exploded.

"Charlie, you bastard son! You sold your own father out to the police? I swear I'll kill you. I'll kill you!"

I chuckled —of course I was the one who sent all the proofs anonymously to the police. I sat back on my seat with a sigh. Then I singed the papers and looked at the board meeting's members.

"If you're against me taking over the company, I advice that you leave right now."

A few of them —mostly the older ones— left the room. Only three person stayed, not daring to look at me. Good, at least those guys are smart. I handed them papers and they all read it with narrowed eyes.

"Here's the contract stipulating that Lawson & Co. was bought back by the new company Aurora."

They all stared at me wide-eyed, shocked. To be honest I would too if I were them.

"Aren't we going to loose money? How can you do that?!"

"We won't since I'm the founder and president of Aurora. You'll still be shareholders."

They sighed in relief and happiness.

Aurora thrived long afterward —the new products were always sold out as soon as they came out. After a few years of running the company, I gave my presidential seat at Arya and decided to focus on creating new medicines in the laboratory. It was. The original's dream and honestly, I was too lazy to manage a whole company —doing experiences was so much more fun.

A month after Richard was sent to jail, he died in a prison's riot. It wasn't my doing, though. I was planning to let him rot in there for a few more months and then kill him. I suspect Amory for this so it's fine, I don't feel frustrated but rather happy. He always knows what I think or want.

Charlie and his mother, Elizabeth, were kicked out of my house and ended up in the street with no money. Elizabeth was killed by another homeless person with a knife in her stomach as she was trying to find food in a restaurant's bin.

Charlie was then left alone. One day, a man noticed him and proposed him a contract. Desperate, Charlie accepted and started to sell himself. He endured it for a year and after being taken by those ugly old men, he killed himself.

What he didn't know was that most of his clients were business men who were betrayed bay his father, Richard. They took it out on him and made his life a living hell by mistreating him and humiliating him.

Also, it wasn't a coincidence that he was scouted in the street. After I kicked Charlie out of my house, I sent the sex tape to that man and told him where to find the person in the video. After Charlie killed himself, the man was arrested for human trafficking and died a few days later in prison.

As if I would let him live after tricking and forcing the original to sell himself.

After a year of relationship, Amory finally decided to ask my hand and we got married. We spent a lifetime together —the best I've ever lived. Everyday was filled with happiness. I tried to enjoy it to it's fullest but from time to time, reality would hit me back.

Especially the last day of our life.

Amory was lying in our bed, breathing with difficulty. Even with wrinkles, he was still the most handsome man in the world. I laid next to him and hugged him —crying as I realised it was time for him to go in the after world. Maybe if I hurry and find a way to die, I'll see him again. Who knows? He patted my head and ruffled my hair, his entrancing blue eyes looking at me kindly.

"It's okay sweetheart. Don't cry."

He kissed me on the forehead and closed his eyes.

"We'll see each other soon."

I looked up at him and was about to retort but I pressed my lips tightly instead. His breathing had stopped. I caressed his cheek and gave him one last peck on the lips as tears were flowing out of my eyes like a river.

If only what he said was true. What an ass —I chuckled.

I closed my eyes and left the world.

When I arrived in my personal space, I stayed laying here while fixing the white empty endless room. I felt the power nourishing and strengthening my soul's core. The warmth it procured in my heart reminded me of Amory's embraces and I started to cry again until I fell asleep.

I woke up five hundred years later, feeling lighter but also emptier. I ignored the still latent pain churning my organs and got up. I opened the system and selected a world without thinking. I clicked 'enter' and disappeared.
