Chapter 31

"Nadia!" A big, muscular young man ran towards us and scooped up the small girl in his arms. My immediate guess was that they were lovers, but when I told them this, they almost puked.

He inspected his sister from head to toe, then turned to me with a flying fist. I wasn't going to accept a misplaced punch, so I readied myself in a fighting stance. The petite girl stood between us, stopping the battle before it erupted.

"Aid, hold on! She saved me," Nadia pleaded.

His forehead creased when he saw the deep mark from the rope on her wrist. "What's this?"

"They tied me," she said.

"Who?" he asked, eyeing me suspiciously.

Offended, I added to the girl's answer, "The thugs did it. Why are you suspicious? She said it herself, I saved her! If I knew this is how you were going to treat me, I wouldn't have bothered rescuing her."
