I must be hallucinating. Or was this all just a dream? The once deafening sounds of chaos around me faded into the background.

That figure was unmistakably him. The familiar brown hair. The powerful build of his broad shoulders and muscular arms. Even from behind, I knew it was Aidan, without a doubt.

But I had spent days, even weeks, with his lifeless body. If anyone was certain of his death, it was me. He had ceased to breathe. I had checked countless times.

As my mind raced through countless possibilities, my legs grew weak beneath me. Yet, the man who resembled Aidan continued to move farther away.

I yearned to call out to him, to scream his name and make him turn around so I could see his face once more, but my voice betrayed me. No sound escaped my throat.
