CHAPTER 29

  “I need more time,” Graham said in a tense voice as he watched me pace around the dining table while his fingers ran over the keyboard of his laptop. Terrence was sitting on his right with his headphones hanging around his neck, his fingers clacking on the keyboard as well, but as his uncle spoke, he paused and looked up.

  “It’s been a week,” I said slowly, trying not to snap at him. It wasn’t his fault. I should have followed her to her apartment when I saw the panicked look on her face. I should have gone even if she had said no, just to make sure there wasn’t a real danger. But I had wanted to give her space and freedom, to wait for her to reach for me. I was an idiot.
