My skateboard wheels scratched against the concrete as I skated to my designated smoke hideout.

Where?

Behind my mom's house in my newly renovated treehouse from my childhood. The best place to get away...my little sanctuary to be alone with my thoughts. Rolling to a stop in her empty driveway, I planked my board on the porch before pulling out my house key before letting myself in.

Good that man wasn't here. I can just go 'bout my business. I thought.

"Ma!" I called, letting the door slam shut behind me and locked it.

"She ain't here. They went to file taxes chile and baby bro is with them since I have bunch of homework." Antique replied from her spot on the sofa.

"Did you eat?"

"Yeah...there's some taquitos cooling on the stove if you want some. Leave some for Ma."

"Bet! I'll be in the treehouse." I stated, grabbing a few of the cylinder snack and trailed out the backdoor.

She hummed in acknowledgement, not taking her eyes off her laptop.
