The Visit

School officially begins next week, and I still haven't seen my grandpa. You could say I avoided him, but I don't want him to believe I lied. He'd have a field day. My stomach was grumbling with nervousness as I tossed and turned in bed.

"Majesty!"

"Yes, mother!"

"C'mere!" She beckoned.

I left the room to the den, where she watched Matlock on cable. Plopping down next to her, we sat in comfortable silence.

"Where Antique? Alias?"

"Antique is out doing her thing per usual, and Alias is at the babysitter. I wanted to check in on you and see how my oldest is doing?" She looked at me expectantly.

"Do you really wanna know?"

"I am asking, ain't I?"

"Yeah, you're asking, but is this a judgment-free space?" I questioned. It was my turn to give my mom my look of expectation.

"I will try my best."
