Chapter 4

She now had to focus on another problem.

Money!

She seriously needs money now.

If she wants to get out, she would need money to pay exit fees, or even if she were somehow able to escape the shit hole somehow, what would she do then?

For a lowly demon such as her, she would not survive a day outside where expenses would skyrocket.

So, what she needed now the most was to utilize the best of her resources first and foremost.

She would need her past life knowledge to do that as well.

Even though the netherworld was depicted to be similar to modern earth in many aspects but it could not be denied it is not at the level of technology of earth.

The place where she is right now is even more backward than outer other polished areas.

She searched her whole house and found whatever saving her mother had.

"A total of 120 devil coins…"

She had a total of 120 devil coins on her right now which was the savings her mother did for her entire life here.

The amount is low but in the place she lived, she was sure she could survive a week or two if she utilized it right.

But she did not have such a short-term goal as of now, she wanted to utilize this money to its maximum potential…

And to do that, she racked her brain to obtain possible ideas.

A business….

It was the most plausible thing she could start with the amount

A small business in this city….

Some businessmen ran their businesses here inside the dark city and all of them were living decently even under such circumstances, having meat to eat and a strong house to stay in.

Even the gangs here would not recklessly trouble them knowing each businessman could wreck them with his/her connections and money.

She had enough strength according to her and she could probably take on a few gangsters.

She dressed up in whatever clothes she had and locked her house, she was also carrying a blade that her mother often used to carry whenever she went out for her safety.

Evelyn ran in the streets of the dark city at a fast pace even though it was dark and the streets were missing lights.

She had lived for more than 5 years so she was naturally used to the paths around her house and some nearby areas. She could feel her body being lighter than before she devoured her mother.

She went to the nearest shop she used to visit with her mother sometimes.

The shop sells groceries, and she knew the store owner, he was an old demon who used to run the shop for a long time.

He would often whenever possible give her a piece of bread or something.

"Hello, can I get a bag of sugar, rice, wax, and some vegetables…."

She listed out her order to the old demon sitting outside the store.

The old man glanced at the little demoness before speaking in a hoarse voice.

"Kid, if you are playing, go away…"

"I am serious"

Saying so, Evelyn took out a pouch from inside her shirt, and the bag jiggled with the metallic sound of coins clashing.

The old demon's eyes widened for a moment.

He was about to ask her about the money and how she got it but, in the end, he didn't say anything and brought out her grocery.

He didn't ask anything because it was an unwritten rule in this dark city to mind their own business lest they wanted in trouble.

Although he knew this little girl but not to the extent that he would truly care for her… as an old man, he would just give out some leftover or expired bread sometimes as it was better than throwing it away.

People here would eat anything edible so long it was not poison.

He called out one of his men and helped her deliver it to her house, the amount she purchased was sufficient for an average family of 2 to last a month easily.

She spent whooping 100 devil coins on the stuff which stung her.

The old man didn't even give a small discount.

As for why she purchased it was because she was planning to make biscuits out of them.

Biscuits were not there in the netherworld and the ones that were there were just extremely poor copies of the original ones.

She, used to cook a lot in her past life as a hobby so she knew of many dishes that were not even here but for them, she would need a lot of ingredients which she could not afford at all as of now.

After coming home, she immediately got to work and started the process.

She found out just how useful her [Spirit Magic] could be now.

She didn't expect it.

The thing was, with the help of [Spirit Magic], she could imbue magic in the rice and flour to make it even more delicious and healthy to consume.

She realized that if she imbued enough magic in the biscuits, she could even make them magical, which means, upon consumption, they could even help demons restore stamina to some extent.

She didn't do that because it would be just too much for the biscuits she was going to sell for the low price here and because it would attract just too much attention from the wrong sides.

This was also thanks to her mother's intermediate knowledge of Spirit Magic that she could find such uses for her magic.

----------------

After 7 hours

It was almost night, although every time is night, here, she could distinguish it as the two moons rose high in the purple sky.

She had prepared some dozen biscuits and she didn't want to boast but they were delicious when she tried one herself.
