Woolly Mammoth

After seeing the missions prompts, Alex raised his brows. The first mission and its rewards are understandable. As for the second mission, it was simple, reach rank 2 in the mage path, but the reward was something that he didn't know about. A soul weapon, what was that?

As if knowing the thoughts in his mind, the system replied, [A soul weapon is just a normal weapon that has a soul either born or sealed inside it....The soul in the weapon determines the strength of the weapon and the souls with higher potential always leads to the birth of a mighty weapon....Each soul weapon choses its owner and it cannot be taken away from him or her without the owner's permission as it would teleport back when it reaches a certain distance....]

The description was precise and straight to the point. Alex immediately knew that it was indeed a very good weapon to have. Now, the only question in his mind was, if the reward was unlocking the soul weapon's potential, did that mean that he possessed one? Just as he was about to ask, he remembered that he only had four days in the tower and during that period of time, he had to reach the peak of rank 2 as that was as far as the tower could support him.

Rank 1 cores could not be used to breakthrough in rank 2 and similarly, rank 2 cores cannot be used to breakthrough once he reaches rank 3. This was the precise reason Alex was currently in a low mood but the only solution that came into his mind was to leave Kravon town and go to a city which had a tower that reached rank 3 and above. If possible, he wished to get one that could reach even rank 7 as that would be a massive gold mine for him who could utilize the cores.

Taking a deep breath, he stood up and decided that it was now time for him to test his rank 2 strength. The explosive increase in his strength after the breakthrough was astonishing as this was a breakthrough from one realm to another unlike the previous breakthroughs that were just from a single stage to another.

Strength attribute of sixty, stamina attribute of sixty and finally, agility attribute of sixty. This was impressive and now, he wanted to test it. Who was better at helping him consolidate his foundation other than the monsters present in the tower? Not only were they strong, they had sharp battle instincts and thus made a good opponent for him.

Selecting a defensive type monster, a one on one battle and a plain battleground, Alex was ready for the fight. The reason for choosing a defensive type monster was simple, he needed a punching bag so that he can test the limits of his strength. He wasn't used to his current strength and thus he needed time to be. A defensive type monster wasn't aggressive as compared to agility and offensive type monsters.

The light slowly faded revealing a woolly mammoth. An elephantine creature with huge curved tusks that were about five meters in length. Its body was covered in a huge amount of fur and thus the name woolly mammoth. It had the height of about six meters and weight of about six tons. The skin of this mammoth wasn't something that could easily be broken through and thus the reason as to why it was a defensive type monster.

Even though it was classified as a defensive type monster, it had immense strength and if its tusks were to hit Alex, he wasn't sure if he could survive. The only disadvantage that this mammoth had was that its agility was low. This was the only thing that made it susceptible to predators. As long as one had agility and great offensive capability, he could easily overwhelm it.

Alex was just like that. With his lightning steps movement technique, his speed was bound to be much higher than that of the mammoth. Apart from being in the same rank and stage, Alex could also use the accumulated attribute points to increase his speed when needed this he wasn't worried about his opponent.

Apart from this being a hunting ground, it was also a training ground for him. Training all the techniques that he had as well as a source of cultivation resources, the core. Even though Alex might have been treated unfairly back at home, that didn't mean that he didn't have knowledge. He had read several books before he failed awakening.

Seeing a human standing before it, the mammoth decided to charge forth and start the battle. Woolly mammoths weren't know to be the aggressive types and this mammoth attacking was kind of bizarre. It seemed that this mammoth had be irked by something and seeing something small in its sight of vision, it decided to vent out all its anger on it.

Every step the mammoth took made the ground shake from the weight of its feet hitting the ground. This battlefield being a plain field, there was no grass whatsoever and thus with every step of the mammoth, dust rose to the air. Even though the mammoth wasn't known for its agility, that didn't mean that it was slow. It was fast. The reason as to why it wasn't known for its agility was because it wasn't incredibly fast.

Seeing it make its move, Alex didn't let it steal the show as he immediately activated his lightning steps movement technique to the maximum. His mana gushed to his legs increasing the strength and flexibility thus making his speed drastically increase. The speed at which he moved was about three to four times that of his previous maximum while he was at rank 1. It seemed that his sixty points of agility wasn't just for show as his lightning steps movement technique depended on his maximum speed to show its maximum potential.

Seeing the speed that the figure before it erupted with, the mammoth couldn't help but be a little surprised. A little surprised, that was all. It didn't stop but instead charged its speed to the maximum possible to meet with the opponent head on. Having immense strength and high defense, there was little that could take it down.

Alex didn't plan to take this behemoth head on as he knew that his physique was inferior and thus, he had to utilize his battle skills. Just before the huge and curved tusks hit him, he immediately dropped on his knees and rolled forward. For a creature that was more than three times his height, he was capable of going beneath its legs.

After rolling, the mammoth passed by and Alex immediately stood up and took out his dual swords. Directing his qi into them, he again charged at the mammoth that was just coming to a stop after realizing that it had missed its attack. Before it could turn around, Alex slashed at its left hind leg immediately leaving a small cut mark. That was all, a small cut mark and a few drops of blood.

"Come on, just what kind of defense do you have?" Alex was stamped. He didn't expect that his usually strong attack could only leave such a tiny mark. Even with his increase in strength, that was all that he could do? Had someone know what Alex was thinking, he might have been beaten to a pighead.

What was a woolly mammoth? This was a defensive type monster and for one of the same rank to be capable of leaving a cut mark on it with just a single strike of his sword, this was an incredible feat. Perhaps to other people this was incredible, to Alex who had been influenced by the system, this was not something to be proud of.

The mammoth howled in anger after feeling that it had been scratched. It turned its head and used its long tusks to strike at Alex who was still in a daze wondering what went wrong. For someone that had fought many battles, Alex immediately felt the attack coming his way and because he was a little late, he knew that he couldn't evade this attack.

Knowing this, Alex dropped the sword in his right hand and immediately stretched it towards the incoming tusks. When they were about to connect, Alex used the tusks as a lever and jumped into the air and landed onto the back of the mammoth. Feeling that someone was riding on its back, the mammoth went into rage and began trying to shake Alex off its back.

But how could Alex let this happen? He tightly grabbed onto the fur on its back. Knowing that if he extended this battle any further things would be disastrous for he who was core hunting, he immediately unleashed his sword intent for the first time in the tower.

Sensing that things weren't going the way that things were dire, the mammoth immediately tried using its truck to knock Alex off its back. As the trunk approached, Alex immediately slashed his sword forward and the truck was cleanly cut into two pieces. Sword intent focused on sharpness and thus the defensive capabilities of a rank 2 initial stage mammoth were nothing before it.

THUD!

With a thud, the severed trunk fell on the ground. The mammoth still failed to notice that the truck had been cut. It was only after a few seconds that pain was recorded in its brain and at the same time, blood began spurting out of the stump. The mammoth howled in pain as it went berserk.

Knowing what would happen if he let this beast go on a rampage, Alex made a forward flip and used his sword to slash at the head. The mammoth immediately stopped its movements and a few seconds later, a vertical line appeared on its forehead. Then, the head split into two and hang onto the neck while blood dripped down like a river.

Although it had great vitality, the sword intent extinguished its life after cutting through the brain matter of the mammoth and thus the woolly mammoth was no more.
