Maya and friends come face to face

Jaena started crying aloud, "I won't be able to forgive myself if something happens to you." "Would you please get up?" Jaena cried as she saw his brother trying hard to open his eyes.

They were all in a difficult condition—injured, scared, and devastated—but doing their best to stop the blood.

While Daehyun attempted to call an ambulance but received no response as signals were extremely weak in the forest.

Without everyone realizing it, Maya rushed toward them and hid behind the tree near them as they turned to face Jaebin.

She ordered Miniz to stay there where she was before, just for safety reasons. She didn't want to bring them any harm.

"If the White Witch didn't exist, we would never have arrived here, and none of this would have happened," Minho yelled angrily.

Even though it was their plan to arrive here, not the White Witch's, he was so guilty that he continued to place the blame on her.

Maya was curious, so she peered behind the massive tree to see who had said it and who was the White Witch.

But her attention directly went to the young boy, who was covered in blood and was breathing heavily, as she peeked.

She wanted to assist him but was unable to because doing so may endanger her life.

However, she was heartbroken by witnessing the young man's suffering. She wasn't sure what would happen if she appeared in front of them since they had weapons with them, and she couldn't blindly trust her hair to protect her, so she was debating whether to aid the injured man or protect herself.

But then, another thought entered her head: if she didn't use her ability to cure others, she would be just as useless as a lifeguard at the swimming Olympics. Her abilities must have some purpose.

She also feared that if that man passed away, she will indeed live with remorse.

As she was thinking, Minho was also looking around to find help.

Finally, his eyes landed on her. At first, he forget to breathe, but then quickly came to his defensive sense, screamed loudly, and retreated.

Everyone looked in his direction and then at that tree, he was pointing at. All of them froze on their steps in utter terror.

Minho yelled at the top of his lungs, "Wha- wha- what is that?" While pointing at that tree that was doing a bad job to hide Maya completely.

She saw their frightened face, didn't give it much thought, and decided that she would rescue him or else she would be guilty her entire life for not saving at least one person despite having power.

Seola acted quickly, stepped forward, and released an arrow that struck Maya's exposed arm from behind, coming from a tree.

Maya was stunned by the sudden action and thought her hair would shield her when the arrow came close by, but she didn't expect to get hit by it.

Her little heart was broken because only wolves could be protected by her hair and not her.

Her face was showing regret, and her mind was berating itself for relying on her hair rather than her intuition.

Maya was accustomed to suffering from years of living in the wild; she frequently hurt herself but was also capable of healing herself. As a result, the arrow had little to no effect on her and was unbelievably bearable.

So this thing washed away her regret, making her worried about the young boy once more.

They could tell that she was unharmed by the arrow. She stood there motionless, watching them without moving.

Jaena gave the order to others to run, but she decided against going because she didn't want to leave her almost-dying brother behind.

"I'll never leave you and Jaebin behind." Daehyun said, "You should run; I will protect Jaebin." He was worried about his girlfriend and best friend, and he didn't want witch White to hurt them.

"Please listen to me for once; please run..." Jaena yelled at him because she couldn't worry about more people she loved.

Daehyun knew how stubborn she was, and since there was no option left, he had to flee with others who were also reluctant to leave their friend to die there.

Seeing that, with the exception of Jaena, who was sitting on the ground holding her unconscious twin brother Jaebin in her lap, everyone else fled the scene in fright, Maya shook her head in her mind and thought, "Was she really that scary?"

When Jaena turned to face the tree, she caught sight of an odd creature peering out from behind it with innocent sparkling eyes.

Jaena yelled in dread as she noticed the creature getting closer, "Don't come close—please don't come near."

When Maya noticed Jaena's trembling body, she became upset.

However, instead of speaking, she gave her a consoling look that looked like she was saying, "I won't hurt you; believe me."

Jeana became stationary as Maya crept up close to her and observed the situation.

On the other end, instead of running away, everyone hid behind a tree to observe what was taking place.

They couldn't also leave their friends to deal with the problem on their own.

Seola pointed her arrow toward Maya while Minho and Daehyun grabbed the biggest rock they could find behind the tree, preparing to retaliate if she injured Jaena or Jaebin.

They made an effort despite knowing it would be ineffective because they had all witnessed the attack that had failed her.

Maya gestured with her hand that the young man could be trusted with her without saying a word.

Jaena didn't know why, but he picked up his brother and gave him to her out of some subconscious sense of trust.

Maya's heart started to race as she took hold of Jaebin's hand and placed him on her lap.

She had her one arm beneath his neck, his head between her right shoulder and inches up from her chest.

They all stopped breathing, grew weak, and had difficulty thinking straight as they watched the happenings.

In spite of the fact that they surrendered Jaebin to the White Witch they were seeking, they did not find her to be frightful; rather, they thought she was exquisite and ethereal.

They would not have objected in the slightest if someone had commanded them to stare at her continually, day and night.

They were drawn to her since she lacked any terrifying characteristics, including magnificently long white hair that appeared to be floating in the air.

Maya made an effort to see Jaebin's face clearly without the blood smeared on his face.

Since it was the first time she had touched a person in three years—and even on her last day as a human, she didn't touch anyone in her family—she felt guilty about it, though.

On top of that, it was the first time she had ever held a man like this.

Maya felt her heart racing and her breathing becoming labored.

She perceived that the explanation must be that she had never held another human like this and was still terrified of these individuals as she experienced complex emotions after holding him.
