187 — Mr Gao Gets The News

The chilling glare he directed at her was far scarier than the words he threw down. "That name is not for you to call. Rest assured: For what you have done, you will pay." The simple sentences sent chills running down her spine.

He no longer paid her any attention as he rushed out in long strides with Pei Yueran in his arms. Gong Anwei, who was waiting at the parking lot, opened the car door for them to get in.

On the way to the hospital, Li Chuanmo's face remained frosty as he took in her pale face and tightly shut eyelids. Inwardly, he reproached himself endlessly.

It was all his fault. Why did he let her go there, knowing how dangerous it would be? Why didn't he tell her?

The punch he gave that man should have landed on his face instead. He deserved it more.

Sensing his worry, Gong Anwei drove faster, weaving skilfully through the traffic.

They got to the hospital in ten minutes, and Pei Yueran was admitted immediately. Very quickly, an IV line was set up and she was hooked to machines to monitor her vital signs.

The doctor examined her and her blood was drawn for some tests.

Then it was time to wait.

After some time, Gong Anwei knocked on the door of the ward. At Li Chuanmo's "come in," he entered.

"Has it been handled?"

"Yes sir. They have been taken to the base, awaiting your orders."

"Torture them, but keep them alive."

Gong Anwei replied, "Yes sir."

Then he hesitated, until Li Chuanmo asked, "what else?"

"Mr Gao Tinghua has been calling."

"Just ignore him." Li Chuanmo said.

"Alright sir," he replied before going out again.

Since he woke up that morning, Gao Tinghua's left eye had been twitching. He didn't pay any attention at first, but even Tong Zhian noticed.

He was currently in his office with the loads of documents he brought that needed Gao Tinghua's signature.

Since the last time he spoke out of turn and Gao Tinghua did not react, he had grown bolder and currently dared to say anything.

"Sir, your eye has been jumping for a while now."

"What's it to you?" Gao Tinghua replied as his hand continued signing without pause.

"Nothing. But I heard if your eyes twitch continuously, it can mean several things."

"Like what?"

"For example, if your right eye twitches, it may mean someone is saying something good about you, or that you're about to come into wealth."

Obviously Gao Tinghua's right eye could not be twitching. He was already too rich for his own good, and of course, it would be a cold day in hell before someone said anything good about him.

This was Tong Zhian's honest opinion.

"Don't you know your right from left? It's my left eye that is twitching." Ordinarily, Gao Tinghua would not have continued this conversation, but somehow he needed the distraction today.

"Yes I can see that, but that's worse. If it is your left eye, it means bad luck, or that something bad is about to happen to you." Tong Zhian said excitedly, causing Gao Tinghua to raise his brows.

Why was he sounding so excited at the thought of something bad happening to him?

"How can you believe in superstitions at your age? Do you even think something bad can happen to me? What bad luck?"

"Right, you're more likely to be the bad thing about to happen to someone. You are usually the one bringing bad luck to other people instead." Tong Zhian agreed seriously. His boss wasn't called the god of Menace for nothing.

The hand signing off the documents paused as Gao Tinghua calmly stared at him. "It seems that you've recently become very comfortable with me? You now have guts to spout nonsense."

Tong Zhian shut up immediately as he shook his head. He quickly pointed to the next document to divert Gao Tinghua's attention, "This one needs urgent signing off sir."

Gao Tinghua wanted to say something, but his left eye jumped again. Annoyed, he furrowed his brows as he signed the document.

Just as he finished with the last document, Tong Zhian scooped everything up and walked away quickly, looking like he was fleeing.

Gao Tinghua just watched him go. He surmised that it was his guilty conscience that was dealing with him. Now that he was free again, his thoughts turned to his family.

He had still not told his mother that he had found his sister, for several reasons.

Most important on the list was the fact that he had no tangible evidence to present. He had sent his men to get her toothbrush or hair, but the security around her was tight and he hadn't found an opening yet.

He couldn't just tell his mother that he pulled down his elder sister's camisole and exposed her chest in order to identify her right? His mother would probably just beat him up.

This new and improved mother of his was capable of anything.

Another reason was that his mother would probably want to rush to City M to see her immediately. He convinced himself that he didn't want her to be scared.

Also, he hadn't found the right time. He hadn't gone back home since the last time. Even though his relationship with his mother had improved, they were still slightly awkward together. He needed some time to come to terms with things.

He refused to admit, even in the privacy of his own thoughts that the main reason was to give him time to nurse his broken heart and mourn the love that would never be.

Nevertheless, what had to be done had to be done.

He sighed. First things first. He needed irrefutable evidence to show his mother. It seemed like he would have to speak to Li Chuanmo. Looking at the way he recently handled things and how he was able to block his men so effectively, he had to admit that this Chairman Li was quite formidable.

His thoughts were interrupted by his phone ringing. Seeing that it was the leader of the men he put around Pei Yueran, his heart tensed up as his left eye began to twitch crazily.

He picked the call quickly. On hearing the report the person on the call gave, his countenance changed drastically as his free hand clenched.

"Were they caught?

"Understood. Don't do anything and just wait for my orders." He said before ending the call.

After a beat, Gao Tinghua suddenly smashed the phone in his hand with white hot rage.

The b**ch!
