Chapter 8

ALEX

I was worried about Gabriela, because she had never been late and I was calling and texting her like crazy, but she didn't answer anything. At this moment I was thinking about possible reasons why Gabriela didn't answer me, such as she's angry with me for something or I don't know, she didn't want to see me. I was considering going to her house, but I know if I showed up and her parents or her siblings were at home, Gabriela would kill me, so I decided to play my last two tricks. Call Marcos, and if he didn't know anything, Carlota.

I decided to call Marcos first, I don't know why, but I think he's the one who was always aware of what was happening to her, mostly because they had been friends for many years, and he knew her better than anyone. Luckily for me, it doesn't take too long to answer, which makes something inside me calm down a bit.

"Hi Alex." He replied calmly "Marcos, I'm worried about Gabriela, she doesn't answer my messages or calls." I quickly said "Yes, that's what I wanted to talk to you about, you shouldn't call her, she left her cell phone at home." He replied and I frowned, "Where is she? We were going out."

"Yes, she told me something, but she's not going to be able to go. She's with her grandmother in the hospital, she was admitted this morning." I asked "Angela?" I asked, because if it was her, I couldn't imagine how worried she would be considering how she got when she found out about the accident.

"No, Rebecca." He corrected and took a breath of air "What's wrong?" I asked, less worried than before, "According to what she told me, Rebecca had a small stroke and was taken to the hospital in the early hours of the morning."

"Do you know if her parents are with her? Is anyone with her?" I asked, putting together a plan in my head. "She's alone." "I have to go with her. I must see how she is," I said, starting to walk towards the house, to grab my things and go to her.

"Alex, listen to me, don't do something we might regret later. Later her mother will go to the hospital with her." he said, and I shook my head, because at that moment I didn't care about that, "Marcos, as long as she's not there I'm going to be with her." I said "You don't know where she is, and I can't help you with it" he admitted "I'll find her anyway"

"The question is what are you going to do to find her in the hospital." He replied and I stopped for a couple of seconds "Can't you tell me?" I asked, "I already told you I have no idea, I just know they went to the hospital closest to us, I don't remember what it's called."

"I know what it is, don't worry." I said, "Still, you don't know where she is in the hospital." He insisted, "I'll take care of that, I'll find out, don't worry." I replied, "Okay, but please don't tell her I told you, okay?" He asked and I nodded, because I imagine it would be something Gabriela wouldn't like too much. "I won't tell her"

"Thank you, now go and take care of her." He asked and I nodded, because that's the intention I had "I'll do it, thank you Marcos." With that, I hung up and ran home to get the car and go see Gabriela. I don't want her to be alone. It took me longer than it would have taken me to get home, but as soon as I got there, I rushed home, grabbed my keys, locked the door, and got into the car.

Right now, it was quite hot, so I took off my jacket and left it in the passenger seat. It took me an hour to get there and a quarter of an hour to find a place to park. I was away from the hospital, but I wasn't going to spend any more time looking for a place to park closer to the hospital, the only thing that mattered to me is seeing Gabriela and seeing how she is. When I rushed to the counter, the doctor there was looking at me in amazement.

"Hello sir, how can I help you?" asked the doctor "Hello, I'm looking for Rebecca." I said taking a breath of air "To whom?" he asked looking briefly in my direction "To a woman who entered this morning." I insisted, "Are you related to her?" he inquired, and I denied, "So we can't give you information about the patient, sir."

"Okay, but I'm not looking for her, I'm looking for her granddaughter. She's here with that woman." I tried and he denied again, "I can't give you that information." he repeated, "Look, I just want to see how my girlfriend is doing and accompany her." I begged, "Call her and let her tell you where she is."

"She left her cell phone at home; I have no way to contact her." I said "Well, I'm sorry, I can't help you with that." I know he wasn't going to tell me anything about where he was and I understand that it was the law and I had to abide by it, but that didn't mean it bothered me he didn't tell me. I decided it was better to sit there and wait for Gabriela to come down or something, it was the last hope I had left, honestly.

"Okay, thank you so much for your help." I started walking towards the chairs in front of the counter and thinking about my things, wondering how Gabriela was doing and everything that had to do with her. "The girl is in waiting room two on the fourth floor."

As soon as I heard those words I turned to the doctor with a smile, because he had helped me, I didn't really expect it. "I shouldn't have told you, but I see you love that girl, so go to her and help her in whatever she needs." he said with a small smile on her face "Thank you very much doctor, I really thank you from the bottom of my heart."

"You're welcome, now leave." I smiled again and ran to the elevators. Luckily for me, just as I got to one of them, it had just opened, and I was going to the fourth floor. Those seconds seemed like an eternity, but when it arrived, I ran out in search of the waiting room that the doctor had told me about. I went into it looking for Gabriela like a madman, but she wasn't in there, so now it would be more difficult to find her.

"Alex? As soon as I heard my name, I knew it was Gabriela, I turned and saw her standing by the door. She's running her hands over her arms, so I guess she's cold, which was strange, because it wasn't in here, but I also remembered Gabriela gets cold easily, or maybe she came from outside to get some fresh air, the only thing that mattered to me is that I could now be with her and help her in whatever was necessary and then I would be calmer.
